We're powering a cleaner, brighter future.Approximately 18 months of instruction leading to a Substation Shift Technician in an electric transmission/distribution-oriented discipline responsible for field operation, mechanical maintenance and high voltage testing tasks in company substations, and mechanical maintenance and high voltage testing tasks in customer substations. On the job and classroom training to learn and understand substation operations, including the various substation groups. Demonstrates an understanding of all standards, safety practices, and regulations to safely perform tasks associated with the job. Performs basic planned switching and applies and removes grounds to high and low voltage equipment as directed by System Operations to isolate or return equipment to service. Applies the Lockout and Tagout (LOTO) procedures to outage electrical equipment. Performs alarm and trouble response. Performs live phasing acceptance testing of new substation equipment, only under guidance of a Lead Substation Technician. Performs minor diagnostic and troubleshooting tests on in or out-of-service substation equipment. Assists Senior Shift Substation Technicians in troubleshooting equipment and circuit problems, maintaining, testing and repairing high voltage equipment, up to 500 kV. Performs monthly inspections of substation equipment (recording data, equipment inspections, battery checks, and testing alarm systems), correcting unsatisfactory conditions, and referring problems as required. Assures that work conforms to specifications, drawings, safety practices and regulations. Assists in the installation of mobile substations. Is required to work various shifts, overtime, and during emergencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience: Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent Training, education and/or experience in a technical or vocational field; or equivalent combination of education/training and experience. 1-year minimum construction or electrical related experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge: Familiarity with basic electricity. Skills/Abilities: Ability to interpret and accurately follow technical instructions. Ability to handle changing shifts (night/day work). Ability to use hand tools, electrical measuring instruments, operating tools, and test equipment. Physical ability to perform assigned job duties, (e.g., ability to lift 25 lbs. or greater, trench work, climbing, and work from aerial lift and auxiliary equipment). Willingness to work under adverse working conditions (e.g., weather, heights, vehicular traffic, and mandatory overtime). Satisfactory completion of the Technical Occupations Test (TECH). Non-CDL Driving: Maintain a valid driver's license and notify the Company of changes potentially impacting ability to drive. Ability to pass background check to obtain access to various customer substations. Demonstrated ability to write, speak, read, comprehend, and communicate clearly and accurately in the English language. Must be willing and able to work overtime on a regular basis and must be available for callout overtime if, and when required, consistent with the Labor Agreement.
