Site Engineer

A Site Engineer (SE) represents the basic entry level position in the HITT Futures Leadership program. The position will contain a workforce and an education component intended to progress concurrently.
Education Component: 16 hours/week
The SE position requires participants attend an institution of higher education with the intent of obtaining a degree in an industry-related field of study such as a two-year associate degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or Architecture. It is anticipated that the candidate will spend approximately 16 hours per week on the education component of the program with this apportioned to class and study time as the candidate deems appropriate. This program is designed with flexibility to allow candidates ample time to balance a normal course load with the work requirements of the construction team on site. The supervising HITT Site Operations team member will work with each SE to ensure that work schedules support the class and study requirements. Any HITT-required training or classes will be achieved as part of the workforce component.
Workforce Component: 24 hours/week
An SE is assigned to a Senior HITT Site Operations team member for a period of up to four years to learn basic construction skills related to general construction. The learning process is meant to be a ground-up experience in which the the position begins with manual skill development and progresses over time towards basic supervisory abilities. The SEs may be asked to perform manual or trade tasks to better understand or enhance their understanding and knowledge of basic construction activities. Entry level training will focus on construction site operations at the basic trade levels with an emphasis on how each trade interacts with the process of general contracting. The position will advance to a more holistic understanding of site safety, project planning, site organization, and subcontractor supervision to promote and succeed as an assistant superintendent as part of HITT’s Site Operations team. During the team members’ time as SEs, they will be expected to learn or have basic exposure to the following developmental goals and responsibilities related to general construction:

Upon achievement of the Associate Degree and completion of a minimum 24 months in the workforce component, the SE will be eligible for promotion to Assistant Superintendent and will graduate from the HITT Futures program.
