ABOUT THE SIU AGENCY & UNDERWRITING TEAM

Unlike the Claims Fraud Team whose efforts support Citizens’ Claims Operations, the Agency & Underwriting team primarily supports Citizens’ Underwriting Operations and Agency Markets by investigating insurance transactions that often occur at the point of sale involving insurance agents, policyholders, and any other parties providing suspect information in support of the issuance of insurance. Investigators within the team will work closely with Agency Management and (Personal and Commercial Lines) Underwriting and provides reports of findings gathered via research and field investigations to develop and establish evidence of premium fraud, application misrepresentation, and other potentially fraudulent transactions which impact the insurance operation.

INVESTIGATOR II – South Florida field position

Citizens Property Insurance Corporation’s SIU is currently looking for an Investigator II to conduct moderately complex investigations involving suspicions of insurance fraud related to the submission of moderate to high exposure property claims and/or insurance policies within Citizens’ insurance organization. The investigator II reviews matters referred to the SIU, and independently pursues and documents moderate fact gathering efforts in accordance with Citizen’s core performance and best practices; and refers matters of insurance fraud to the fraud bureau/regulatory agencies as appropriate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

• Performs investigations; plans, prioritizes and carries out investigative assignments and conducts and/or coordinates the timely completion of interviews, property inspections, and Examinations Under Oath (EUO) and other investigatory methods as appropriate for the purpose of obtaining material evidence.
• Completes all aspects of case management tracking, including preparation of case file notes, reports, graphs, tables, and documentation in support of investigative findings.
• Reviews claims and/or underwriting user and system generated SIU referrals and other internal reports as assigned in accordance with Citizens’ SIU policy and conducts moderately complex forensic research to determine the need for additional fact gathering and record collection prior to assignment by management.
• Prepares and refers claims and other matters involving suspicious insurance acts to the fraud bureau or other law enforcement/regulatory entity in accordance with Citizens’ policy and Florida statutes; responds to law enforcement file/information requests and represents Citizens at SIU industry meetings facilitated by law enforcement and NICB.
• Participates in the creation and deliver of fraud awareness training to Citizens’ employees, business partners and other stakeholders as necessary to facilitate the identification and referral of potentially fraudulent insurance acts to SIU.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage a high volume of assignments.
• Strong verbal and communication skills.
• Time Management / Self Motivated.
• Strong organizational and time management skills/Self Motivated.
• Strong customer service skills and ability to build relationships and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Valid Florida driver’s license and ability to operate company owned/rented vehicles according to Citizens’ policy on vehicle use.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• High degree of knowledge and skills related to the investigation and defense of property claims.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with a wide range of staff and management.
• Strong knowledge of interview techniques and fact-gathering techniques.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma or the equivalent.
• Associate’s degree OR two (2) years of relevant experience OR a combination of education and relevant experience equivalent to two (2) years of college.

AND

• Four (4) or more years combined SIU/investigative experience and/or property/casualty experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Property claims handling field experience.
• Industry certification, (CIFI, FCLS, CFE).
• Bilingual (English/Spanish).
• Comprehensive knowledge of interview and evidence gathering techniques).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires the ability to conduct field work on a regular basis and be able to work a flexible schedule. Ability to sit for long periods of time, hear and converse over the telephone, and key frequently on a computer for long periods of time (4 or more hours per day). Position also requires the ability to be mobile, operate a motor vehicle, inspect physical damage and work in a highly energetic and flexible work environment. Position also requires ability to travel overnight on a limited basis.
