About the role:

Skydio is the leading US drone company and the world leader in autonomous flight. We leverage breakthrough AI to create the world’s most intelligent flying machines for use by consumer, enterprise, and government customers.  This Data Engineering role is critical in our journey to understand and improve how our drones perform and are used by our customers. You will be responsible for managing and advancing the technology we use for gathering and analyzing data from our drones. Your efforts will be key in enhancing our product performance and customer satisfaction.

How you’ll make an impact:
  • Develop and implement an end-to-end data system that reliably and efficiently ingests vast volumes of vehicle data, including analytics and flight telemetry.
  • Create sophisticated tools and frameworks that empower engineers with both fleet-wide aggregated metrics across time as well as visibility into minute details for debugging.
  • Develop and implement intuitive visualization tools and dashboards for easy access to vehicle data across the company.
  • Continuously improve the data pipelines that collects, transforms, and persists data from our drones, ensuring data integrity and availability.
  • Promote a metrics-focused approach in our product development processes to drive faster and more effective progress.
  • Utilize data and analytics to identify and mitigate risks, ensuring the safety and reliability of our drones.
  • Provide data-driven visibility and insights to help customers manage their fleets effectively as they scale up.
What makes you a good fit:
  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering, especially in a robotics context.
  • Experience building and maintaining cloud-based data systems at scale, addressing challenges like schema migration, data quality, and data governance.
  • Demonstrated an ability to take a concept and systematically drive it through the software lifecycle: architecture, development, testing, and deployment, and monitoring
  • Knowledge of databases and data processing.
  • Proficiency in Python or C++, though not necessary.
  • Ability to coordinate across different teams and maintain good relationships.
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a relevant field, or equivalent professional experience.
Compensation Range: The annual base salary range for this position is $145,000 - 215,000*. Compensation will vary based on factors, including skill level, proficiencies, transferable knowledge, and experience. In addition to base salary, Skydio full-time employees are eligible to enroll in our benefit plans and take advantage of a variety of incentives and stipends.

*For some positions the pay may be dependent upon the individual's regional location.
