Job Summary

The Food Court Worker prepares and serves fast-food and beverages while performing other miscellaneous duties in a food service operation.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Cooks and packages batches of food, convenience food items for sale such as hamburgers, pizza, sandwiches, chicken, and french fries and other fried foods which are prepared to order or kept warm until sold.
  • Cooks, prepares and serves meals that require simple preparation methods including smoothies, coffees/teas, soft drinks and ice cream dishes.
  • Oversees and performs the preparation, portioning, and distribution of items/ingredients for salads, sandwiches, baked goods in accordance with recipes.
  • May oversees and trains student assistants and/or other assigned personnel as required.
  • Attends serving line station and beverage stations by maintaining appearance, quality, cleanliness, sanitation, and product levels.
  • Provides courteous service to guests and promotes good customer relations.
  • Rotates sundry products on display shelves; maintains stock.
  • Performs cleaning/sanitizing activities that may include, sweeping/mopping floors, bus tables to include cleaning/sanitizing table tops and chairs, assist dish/pot room staff, removal of garbage/trash from unit to approved disposal containers.
  • Greets customers, checks ID cards, assist customer, takes food and drink orders; make accept payment for items, use Point of Sale equipment, (cash register) as needed.
  • Responsible for filling out production worksheets to track food production, product utilization, shortages, including overproduction and/or spoilage/waste.
  • Requisitions through a supervisor and maintains adequate supplies.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Additional Physical Demands

Physical Requirement: The ability to work in a kitchen area which is heated by ovens and stoves. Position involves frequent bending, remaining in a stationary position and moving throughout the assigned work area.

Work Environment: The work is performed in an Industrial Kitchen where there is some discomfort in low temperature areas (-10 degrees F) and/or high temperature areas (90 degrees F).
There is risk involved when working with dangerous machinery and wet floors.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • The ability to work in an environment with diverse staff and students.
  • Food Handlers Certification (FHC) accredited by the American National Standards Institute Based may be required upon hire or a newly selected employee may be required to complete this training (or equivalent) during an initial training period.
  • Oral Comprehension — The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Information Ordering — The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).

  • Performing for or Working Directly with the Public — Performing for people or dealing directly with the public. This includes serving customers in restaurants and stores, and receiving clients or guests.
  • Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates — Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Getting Information — Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
  • Ability to make accurate and rapid calculations in the transfer of products and cash.
  • Ability to maintain simple account records and forms.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 0516 - Snack Bar Attendant position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible. The starting hourly salary for this position is $16.57.
