Social Media Manager

Position Overview


The Social Media and Digital Communications Manager position will provide comprehensive support to Proterra’s Communications team. The role of the Communications team is to protect and enhance Proterra’s brand and reputation. We are Proterra’s chief storytellers and the custodians of the company’s narrative. We help inform, educate, and inspire customers, partners, policymakers, and other stakeholders about our company’s mission and vision, the strength of our technology, and the impact we are having by delivering industry-leading EV solutions for commercial vehicles. As Social Media and Digital Communications Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our company’s narrative across our company’s social and digital communications channels. This person will work closely with the Director of Corporate Communications to develop and implement innovative social media strategies that engage and resonate with audiences. This role will own the day-to-day management of Proterra’s social media channels. You will support the Communications team’s overall storytelling efforts, including working across Proterra’s business units to source and tell inspiring sources through social media and digital communications content.

To be successful in this role, you are a creative thinker with proven communications and storytelling skills, have a firm understanding of how to design and execute successful social media campaigns, and leverage social and digital communications channels to increase brand awareness. You enjoy collaborating with all different kinds of people – from end-use customers to battery engineers – and are passionate about clean transportation.


About the Role – You Will:

  • Oversee Proterra’s social media channels, including strategy development, program execution, and community management.
  • Create new and innovative social media strategies for established and emerging platforms that grow and engage our audiences.
  • Partner with Marketing, Creative, and other internal stakeholders to craft and publish compelling social media copy, graphics, photos, video, and other digital content that enhances our brand voice and narrative.
  • Define social media priorities, establish measurable goals and objectives, and regularly analyze and report out on program effectiveness
  • Manage all inbound requests for social media support, and advise on social media strategy and best practices to internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure that we are driving integrated storytelling and editorial themes by managing social media calendar.

Your Experience Includes


  • 5+ years of social media or related digital communications experience, preferably in a public company setting.
  • Deep understanding of established and emerging social media and digital communications tools, including but not limited to LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube.
  • Familiarity with storytelling elements needed to resonate across a range of digital communications channels, with a expertise in B2B social media strategy.
  • Proven ability to identify, source, and package story ideas from concept to execution
  • Knowledge of electric vehicles, battery technology and heavy-duty vehicles is a preferred but not required.
