Job Description

Summary:

The General Sales Manager (GSM) ensures that the dealership meets its unit sales quotas and its gross objectives on a daily, monthly, and yearly basis. The GSM will ensure that the retail and fleet units sold produce sufficient gross to aid the dealership in reaching its profit objective on a monthly and yearly basis and will accomplish these objectives through planning, organizing, coordinating, and measuring the activities of the New- and Used-vehicle Sales Departments.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Make a monthly projection of the vehicle requirements by department for the immediate 90-day sales period.
  • Determine monthly and yearly forecasts in terms of unit sales, gross profit objectives, and departmental profits.
  • Forecast monthly with each salesperson to establish objectives in terms of the number and type of customers coming into the dealership, closing percentages in each category, time utilization, prospecting efforts, unit sales, and projected income.
  • Recommend to the Dealer procedures for short-and long-range advertising, sales promotions, staffing needs, lease promotions, compensation plans, customer complaints, salespersons’ evaluations, and car rentals.
  • Meet with each salesperson as early as possible every day to review yesterday’s results and today’s plan of action.
  • Conduct sales meetings and provide on the job training for salespeople.
  • Ensure salespeople are following an established prospecting program to obtain optimum results.
  • Review monthly commission sheets, productivity reports, salespersons’ monthly forecast, and profit performance with the Dealer by salesperson and as a department.
  • Maintain a balanced vehicle inventory and establish a program for moving new cars in inventory over 90 days.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Sales Manager or General Sales Manager (GSM) experience in an automotive dealership
  • Proven experience managing and leading a high-performance sales team.
  • Experience growing a sales operation.
  • Strong coaching and training abilities to develop and grow a sales team.
  • Outgoing personality with expertise at developing relationships
  • Professional appearance, strong verbal/written communication skills
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • All applicants must be authorized to work in the USA.
  • All applicants must be able to demonstrate ability to pass pre-employment testing to include background checks, MVR, drug test, and valid driver license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual: Spanish-speaking

Additional Information

Compensation (Draw / Uncapped Commission):

  • On-Target Earnings (OTE): $110,000 - $180,000 + / year
    • If meeting and exceeding sales department sales quotas and goals

*The Sales Manager Position has a Pay Scale consisting of the following elements and ranges. Wages include a base monthly draw of five-thousand a month. The position may also pay commission compensation which is based on the value or amount of closed sales achieved from $0.00 (if no sales are made) without any upper limit other than sales performance. The position also may also pay a production bonus based on individual or team performance that may range from $0.00 (if baseline benchmarks are not met) without any fixed upper limit *

Schedule:

  • FULL TIME
  • 5 days / 2 days off
  • Weekend availability required
