Job Summary

Leads the Direct & Resale sourcing functions for Kennametal’s steel, subcontracting, resale, braze, etc. categories, responsible for $125M of annual spend across all North American manufacturing plants and various support operations. This position involves developing and leading a team of sourcing professionals, monitor and implementing strategic sourcing strategies, negotiating contracts, and driving cost savings initiatives as well as market trends, and ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies. The Sourcing Manager will contribute to optimizing procurement processes, managing risks, and delivering value in direct & resale materials globally.


Key Job Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of sourcing professionals, providing leadership, direction, and strategy- translating business priorities into sourcing initiatives that deliver agreed outcomes
  • Partners with manufacturing to ensure that supplier performance is an enabler of manufacturing excellence and customer satisfaction
  • Leads the development, implementation, and governance of sourcing strategies for the subcontracting/outsourcing commodity categories; including supplier selection, supplier relationship development, supplier performance optimization, pricing & contract negotiations, leveraging sourcing tools to secure optimum value, understanding & mitigating supply chain risk, etc.
  • Support the development, implementation, and governance of sourcing strategies for direct & resale materials commodity categories; including supplier selection, supplier relationship development, supplier performance optimization, pricing & contract negotiations, leveraging sourcing tools to secure optimum value, understanding & mitigating supply chain risk, etc.
  • Develops, implements, communicates, and ensures proper governance of the corporate-wide Sourcing strategy.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders in Business Units, RD&E and others as determined to coordinate business requirements and ensure a stable supply chain while delivering optimum value.
  • Liaise with regional sourcing groups (Americas, EMEA, Asia Pacific, Latin America and India) to understand local requirements and ensure proper support as needed.
  • Key Metrics & Outcomes include: Ethics, Cost Reduction, DPO, Touchless Procurement, Supplier On-Time Delivery & Quality, Supplier Lead Time Reduction, Inflation Mitigation
  • Develops detailed knowledge and understanding of cost drivers and manufacturing/service processes related to assigned commodity categories and leverages this knowledge to optimize value for Kennametal
  • Support strategic initiatives and projects as required by the business
  • Drives to develop and understand internal stakeholder requirements and uses this information to assist in recommendation of sourcing decisions.
  • Supports the designing, planning, and managing projects to deliver value-added solutions within defined time and cost parameters


Preferred Areas of Education & Certifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree (RQ) in Supply Chain, Business, or Engineering; MBA (PF)
  • Experience: 3+ years in Strategic Sourcing (RQ) with 1+ years of Global Strategic Sourcing (PF).
  • Certifications: CPSM (PF)
  • Proficiency: MS Office, Excel, Word & PowerPoint (RQ), SAP (PF)


Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Experience: 3+ years in Strategic Sourcing (RQ) with 1+ years of Global Strategic Sourcing (PF).
  • Natural ability to interact positively with internal stakeholders across cultures, regions, and professional disciplines
  • Responsible to select and develop top talent for Kennametal’s regional direct & resale Strategic Sourcing teams. Ensures the team is focused on driving optimal value across Kennametal’s global direct & resale categories.
  • Maintains the highest level of integrity, ethics commitment to safety and compliance to KMT’s code of conduct; role models these behaviors for suppliers.
  • Proven experience in leading and developing the sourcing capabilities of the team, comfortable leading through influence, skilled in all forms of communication.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of products, internal business processes, external customer segments, strategic direction and business objectives. Aligns business objectives and develops sources of supply based on strategic direction.

  • Skilled in analytics; leverages ERP software & raw data to organize and prioritize information for decision making.
  • Supports project management function in designing, planning, and managing projects to deliver value-added solutions within defined time and cost parameters
  • Understands financial concepts including invoicing, accounts payable and other financial business processes. Interprets financial data, analyzes cost structures, and determines financial impacts of decisions.
