Operations Support – Developer / Engineer / AnalystDescriptionThis position will serve as a technical resource within the Power Delivery Operations Support – Communications group.The Power Delivery Operations Support Communication team ensures reliable, safe, and secure critical systems while providing superior support and service to the Distribution Control Centers. The team is made up of engineers, analysts, and specialists providing tier 1 and tier 2 support to our customers for a network of servers and applications that form the Distribution SCADA system. The DSCADA system allows Distribution System Operators at the Distribution Control Centers (DCC) to remotely monitor and control distribution equipment to ensure safe and reliable operations for our employees and customers. Additionally, the team works closely with the Technology Organization, SCS Energy Management Systems (EMS), and Distribution Automation groups to develop, resolve, and enhance communications to substation, transmission line, and distribution line remote terminal units (RTUs).NOTE: The position is currently located in Atlanta, but the position will begin reporting to Lithia Springs in a few years.Key ResponsibilitiesThis position will be primary support over the DSCADA Gateway application written in C# and utilizing a number of industry standards that make it a modern application critical to GPC's Distribution Operations:• Part of the Georgia Power Distribution SCADA support team.• Maintain and develop features for the DSCADA Gateways performing real-time SCADA protocol translation• Maintain and develop features for ancillary applications associated with the DSCADA Gateways such as:• Fault-data collection• Conservation Voltage Reduction• Infrastructure Health Monitoring tools• ASP.NET Web Applications• SQL Server Databases• Maintain, support, and continue building CI/CD Build Pipelines for custom software within the DSCADA environment• Assist the team in developing DevOps best practices including CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code• Proactively monitor solutions to reduce the occurrence of outages and minimize the length of outages.• Provide root cause analysis for incidents and troubleshoot complex technical issues across multiple technologies.• Produce and maintain software and hardware documentation and procedures.• Provide support and troubleshooting for the Distribution SCADA application.• Participate in on-call rotation for system support.• Research viable alternatives to meet the technical requirements of business solutions with a focus on resiliency.• Understand business partners technical requirements.• Focus on providing the best operator experience for our customers.• Values the ideas, knowledge, and expertise of others.• Research viable solutions to meet the technical requirements of business solutions.• Share knowledge of internal/external practices and technical expertise with others.• Responsible for prioritizing work, evaluating results, and taking corrective action as needed.• Establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate with all levels in the organization.• Ability to support and work in a team environment.RequirementsDeveloper with experience in modern best-practices and available to work independently to provide a reliable application suite while continuing to meet the needs of our customers:Education• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, or related fields.Experience• Experienced with Object Oriented Development in C# or similar language• Experienced with mutli-threaded application development• Experienced with SCADA protocols like: DNP3.0, Modbus, and SES-92• Knowledge of Source Control Best Practices• Knowledge of Automated Builds and Deployments (CI/CD)• Knowledge of network architecture and security.• Computer Infrastructure Experience a plus• Virtual Machines• Domain Administration• Etc…Ability to obtain Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) and Insider Threat Program (ITP) clearance is required.Georgia Power is the largest electric subsidiary of Southern Company (NYSE: SO), America's premier energy company.
