Function: Security

Family: Police Operations

Reports to: Chief of Police Pay Grade: N16

Terms of • 245 days per year. FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
Employment: • At-Will employment agreement.

  • Salary is in the pay grade N16 on the Non-
Exempt SAISD Compensation Plan.
  • Entry hourly rate is at $26.97 with consideration
for directly related experience.

Position Summary

The District Safety and Security Specialist will provide support in the coordination and assessment of activities
involved in delivering one or more effective programs for district initiatives. Must know the Senate Bill 11, as
outlined by the Texas Education Agency for School Safety and Security. Must proactively utilize guidelines outlined
in House Bill 496 for staff implantation and training. Assist with activities cross a wide array of elements to include
the planning, design, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of new or existing district safety
initiatives/programs.

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities

1. Update and maintain the District Multi-Hazard Emergency Operations Plan and Critical Incident Quick
Reference Guide.

2. Ensure alignment to the safety requirements and mandates outlined by the state, Texas State Safety
Center, and federal regulations.

3. Collaborate with Risk Management on the biannual safety and security audit.
4. Provide support with the District Oversight Team & Core Team meetings.
5. Assist with the Campus Emergency Management Plans for PreK-12 campuses on the multi-Hazard

SharePoint site and conduct yearly reviews.
6. Provide completion reports to the Assistant Superintendents on the Campus Emergency Management

Plans to include site maps.
7. Provide status reports for the mandated Emergency Operations training and lockdown drills.
8. Review Department Emergency Plans.
9. Provide support with the Multi-Hazard EOP SharePoint site and online calendar for training and lockdown

drills
10. Assist with the review and update of the SAISD administrative procedures related to school safety.
11. Create informational safety videos as needed for campuses that detail current district safety measures.
12. Provide support with the online compliance related documents to include the Quarterly Fire Drill Reports

and monthly AED forms.
13. Complete and maintain the external partnerships (ex. American Red Cross) and MOU’s.
14. Coordinate and schedule the biannual First Aid, CPR, AED training.
15. Create and maintain an inventory log for the EvacuTrac Units.

16. Assist with coordinating and maintaining the inventory and maintenance plans for the AED units.
17. Assist with the yearly updates to the Emergency Operations Training required for campus staff,

substitutes, and staff members at non-instructional facilities.
18. Serve as the District’s Emergency Management Coordinator as outlined in the Multi-Hazard Emergency

Operations Plan.
19. Provide updates to the Board of Trustees as needed.
20. Maintain knowledge on current safety and security measures.
21. Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities

expected for this position.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency)
  • Active certification as a Peace Officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and
Education (TCOLE)
  • Valid Texas driver’s license and good driving record. Meet and maintain liability coverage and eligibility
  • Crime Prevention Certification or experience in School Based Law Enforcement
  • 2+ years in program coordination or related experience in Crime Prevention.
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee
(approximately $50.00) paid by the employee

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 2+ years in program coordination or related experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of Safety Requirements as outlined by the State and Federal Governments
  • Knowledge of TEA Senate Bill 11 and Other School Safety Guidelines and Procedures
  • Knowledge of Safety Utilization of EvacuTrac units
  • Proficient data reporting skills for accurate
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, external personnel, government agencies,
and the community.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills including use of collaborative platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, prioritize, organize, and schedule work to meet established
deadlines and goals.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal policies and procedures as pertains to School Safety and Security
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Security Competencies: communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and quick thinking
in intense situations.
  • Knowledge of State Behavioral Threat Assessment and Data Collection for reporting and data analytics.
  • Knowledge and skills using productivity tools (Microsoft Office Suite, Excel & Google).

Work Environment:

  • Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and
equipment, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.
  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise. Occasional
exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.


Physical Demands/Requirements:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines; frequent sitting,
standing, walking, climbing, balancing, pulling and pushing; reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing,
speaking clearly, visual acuity and prolonged data input; occasional lift/carry light, moderate 15-44 pounds.
