Specialist - LTO - Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

SUMMARY

The Specialist, Legal Talent Office – Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (“Specialist”) will report to and work closely with the Director, Legal Talent Office – Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Talent Development (“Director”) and collaborate with the Diversity Committee Co-Chairs in support of all facets of DEI-related programming and initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Working closely with the Director, implement all aspects of Firm-wide Heritage Month programming for Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Juneteenth, Pride Month, and Hispanic Heritage Month. This includes researching and proposing speakers and drafting questions and talking points for each program.
  • Develop and coordinate strategic DEI initiatives and internal trainings as part of the Allyship Learning Curriculum (including our Firm-wide resource guides and CLE-accredited DEI trainings) in addition to various professional development programs like the Affinity Networks Leadership Series and Partner-led Presentations.
  • Liaise with the affinity networks and support network-related programming.
  • Regularly conduct research on emerging and competitive DEI trends and best practices.
  • Collaborate with the Manager, Legal Talent Office - DEI with compiling written responses to client requests and surveys regarding the Firm’s DEI vision, strategy and initiatives with direction from the Director and the Diversity Committee Co-Chairs. Additionally, help develop and implement client DEI programs.
  • Work closely with the Director to produce content for various DEI marketing collateral, including the annual DEI and Women in Leadership brochures and video series. Partner closely with various team members, other departments, and key stakeholders on multiple, concurrent projects.
  • Additional responsibilities and special projects may be assigned.

In addition, responsibilities related to maintaining firm and client information are to be adhered to by all employees. This includes complying with the firm’s information security policies, protecting firm assets from unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference, and reporting security events or potential events or other security risks to management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Self-starter with superb organizational skills and high level of attention to detail.
  • Strong writer, editor and proofreader.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; an ability to work effectively with a wide-range of lawyers and staff and a commitment to responsiveness.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and generate quality work product in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information and sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism at all times.
  • A commitment to the highest standards of excellence and professionalism that are the hallmarks of Sullivan & Cromwell’s legal practice.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of four to six years of experience working for a law firm, financial institution or other professional services firm. Prior DEI experience preferred.
  • B.A. or B.S. required.
  • Experience working at a law firm or similarly fast-paced professional services environment preferred.

Compensation

The base salary range offered for this role will be between $100,000 and $130,000. When determining a candidate’s compensation offer, elements unique to each person are taken into consideration including but not limited to skill set, experience level, performance, professional certifications, degrees and location, as well as the needs of the Firm.
