Specialist of Innovation Pathways - Academic Programs

GENERAL PURPOSE

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Career and Technical Education, the Innovation Pathways Specialist will support the GO VA 6 funded workforce development grant project. Innovation Pathways is a workforce development project to provide a continuous supply of qualified individuals entering “high demand” engineering, information technology (IT), computer science and cyber related professions in the Stafford, Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, and King George region. The Innovation Pathways project will leverage existing pathways in Stafford County Public School to help students obtain Comp TIA credentials and prepare faculty to offer these courses.
The Innovation Pathways Specialist will work with G3CS and UMW to deliver the grant objectives which include a regional framework for meaningful work-based learning experiences in Cyber Security, a map of work based learning assets, career exposure for 3rd-8th graders through OST programs, professional development for potential and existing teachers, and support for surrounding Divisions in deploying the opportunities to students in the region. The Innovation Pathways Specialist will work closely with
Research, Evaluation and Strategic Improvement in the administration of the grant and evaluation of the efforts.

The Innovation Pathways Specialist is funded at 100% by The Commonwealth of
Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development through GO VA 6 George
Washington Regional Commission through June 2025. Continuation of the position will depend on the availability of funding at the termination of the grant.

MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leveraging Existing Programs o Plan orientations, enrichment opportunities and other grant related activities for Cyber 4+ students. o Plan and facilitate parent, partner and community information sessions. o Market, plan and facilitate Cyber4+ Information Night in Fall of 2023. o Support the work based learning needs for Cyber 4+ students to include identifying guest speakers and securing externships, internships, and more. o Support G3CS in activating activities and enrichment in Out-of-School Time Programs for grades 3rd-8th in Stafford Schools.
  • Regional Grant Support and Administration

o Support grant partners with events and activities as identified in the grant to include asset mapping, coordination of industry partners, regional LEA meetings, activities in OST, etc. o Collaborate to support the evaluation plans for the grant. o Coordinate with grant partners on marketing needs serving as the primary point of contact in leveraging Stafford Schools’ available marketing resources. o Support Research, Evaluation and Strategic Improvement in collecting any necessary documentation for the grant. o Support Research, Evaluation and Strategic Improvement with feedback and progress updates for grant reporting. o Support Research, Evaluation and Strategic Improvement in coordinating the work plan and milestones across the grant partners.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Project management, K-12, and Workforce development experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge o Manage the coordination of a multi-year project, prioritizing workflows according to requirements of the grant. o Project management and workforce development
  • Skills o Graphic and web design skills, including experience with photo manipulation software (e.g., Canva or Photoshop) o Microsoft Excel and/or other spreadsheet applications
  • Abilities o Work cooperatively in a team environment to meet goals o Organize and perform work independently o Meet deadlines for all work even when working on multiple projects o Show sustained effort and enthusiasm in quality and quantity of work

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work environment is an office environment, with moderate noise, temperatures that are controlled, and no exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
  • The work is light work, requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to move or lift objects .
  • The following physical and mental abilities are representative of those expected to complete the essential functions of the job: standing for prolonged periods; sitting for prolonged periods; moving the hands, wrists, or fingers repetitively; moving with force on the back or lower body repetitively; feeling, grasping, or holding objections by hand; identifying colors visually; identifying objects in low light or distant conditions; communicating via spoken language; communicating via written language; perceiving sounds; making decisions using logic and rational thinking.
