We are seeking to recruit an outstanding professional to be a deal owner and business lead in our Music Publishing Licensing team, at the Manager level. Reporting to the Director of Publishing Licensing, Americas, the Manager’s primary focus will be to negotiate and coordinate music publishing licenses in the Americas.  


The Manager  is responsible for existing and new Spotify licenses, establishing and maintaining key relationships with music publishing rightsholders, and strategic and analytical support to help enable new business initiatives and developments. The right candidate will serve as an advocate and ambassador for the Spotify platform, whilst ensuring that music publishing rightsholders are fully aligned to support the ongoing growth and development of Spotify.


What You'll Do
  • Initiate, negotiate and close key music publishing licenses in the relevant North and South American markets.
  • Work cross-functionally to optimize our publishing licensing infrastructure and help grow Spotify’s presence across these markets.
  • Key point of commercial interface for publishing rightsholders in these markets (including collecting societies and publishers).
  • Lead all commercial aspects of music publishing license agreements once they are effective, analysing commercial impact of each license over time.
  • Provide support to the wider commercial and legal licensing team on broader commercial initiatives, business developments, commercial analysis and strategic planning.
  • Work cross-functionally daily with internal teams including Legal, Finance, Publishing Operations and Accounting to structure, develop, negotiate and implement all license terms.
  • Work strategically with other internal business teams to ensure that the publishing licenses reflect and accommodate Spotify’s evolving business needs.


Who You Are
  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree. A Business, Finance, Accounting or Economics major is a plus.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of working experience in the music industry, preferably music publishing and/or the tech and media sector.
  • You have knowledge of digital music and streaming; key music publishing partners, business models, market dynamics and future opportunities.
  • A self-starter and independent worker with the ability and resourcefulness to execute an excellent commercial acumen.
  • You are experienced at working across different cultures and time zones.
  • Experience in deal structuring, deal analysis and a strong negotiator.
  • You have a deep understanding of music copyright across US and xUS territories, licensing and challenges and opportunities the industry faces today.
  • Highly self-motivated individual, excellent at negotiating and have strong communication skills to relate to local cultural aspects.
  • Very good analytical and numerical skills. You can build and explain financial models and have strong spreadsheet skills.
  • You are well organized with the ability to plan and deliver on tight deadlines with attention to detail.
  • You enjoy working in a dynamic and international team and working closely with a number of internal partners.
  • You are a confident and eloquent presenter, to both small and large audiences at a senior level.
  • Able to pivot as market dynamics and Spotify strategy evolve.
  • You are proficient in both written and spoken English. Additional language skills are a plus.


Where You'll Be
  • This role is based in New York, New York
  • We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! There will be some in person meetings, but still allows for flexibility to work from home. We ask that you come in 2-3 times per week.


The United States base range for this position is $121,494-$173,563 plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays.
