Quality Inspector- Mechanical Level 2

We are seeking a qualified Quality Mechanical Inspector in Morgan Hill, CA. This is a part-time opportunity where you will support our client at one or more supplier sites in and around Morgan Hill, 1-4 days per week. This is a 6-month to 1-year contract. This critical role requires an experienced professional with a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of quality assurance practices. Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct visual, physical, and dimensional inspections (both in-process and final) of parts, per project specifications and requirements.
  • Perform incoming inspections from external providers of products and services (e.g., nickel plating).
  • Conduct in-process and final inspections of critical features, including witness inspections (e.g., CMM program run).
  • Compile final inspection sign-off sheets and inspection packages.
  • Verify that inspection equipment can detect defects and ensure inspection methodology aligns with drawing intent.
  • Review and validate the justification for parts not inspected at final inspection.
  • Audit and validate the execution of inspection plans as applicable.
  • Document non-conformances using approved methods and submit non-conformance reports for customer disposition.
  • Verify hardware cleanliness and absence of internal or external foreign object debris.
  • Verify fasteners are properly installed; assure torque stripe is continuous and of correct color.
  • Assure products are free of gaps, mismatches, fairing, and acceptable contour and waviness.
  • Ensure products are of good workmanship and meet specified standards (e.g., oil canning, riding conditions, loose fasteners, drill starts, scratches, dings, burrs, fastener edge distance).
  • Review and validate First Article Inspection (FAI) documentation, including completeness, traceability, and compliance.
  • Ensure the protection and preservation of inspected products for subsequent processing and shipment.
  • Verify applicable shipping documentation, including part number, serial number, configuration change letter, and shipping destination, for legibility and completeness.


Required Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in dimensional inspection of precision tolerance parts.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with all inspection tools.
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex GD&T requirements and validate complex assemblies.
  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. $28 - $32 an hour
Expenses: Mileage (70 cents/mile), 50% pay rate for travel hours included

Note: This position requires access to ITAR-controlled technical data and/or defense articles. As such, the candidate must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. lawful permanent resident (green card holder) to comply with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
