Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.


So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality through Afterpay, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Job Description


Square’s purpose is economic empowerment; since the company’s beginning, we have been helping numerous people start and manage their own businesses. 


The Orders team has a mission to enable sellers to reach their customers anywhere and provide seamless omnichannel experiences - such as buy online, pickup in store - to sellers of all sizes. Furthermore, we strive to build an Orders platform that empowers both teams at Square and an ecosystem of third-party developers to support our sellers’ ever-evolving needs.


We’re looking for an Android Tech Lead to guide the future development of our Order Manager product as it evolves into the central hub for sellers to manage their in-person and online sales. This role will report directly to the Order Manager & Workflows engineering lead and will be the technical lead for 6 Android engineers in addition to mentoring and representing another 6 iOS engineers.


You will:


  • Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of critical features within our Order Manager product.
  • Develop, evangelize, and be accountable for a mobile technical strategy that will guide the team for the next 2+ years.
  • Represent the Order Manager teams in architectural discussions and stakeholder conversations, serving as the bridge between our mobile teams and the broader organization and company.
  • Proactively identify opportunities or high-risk projects and provide hands-on guidance to ensure successful delivery
  • Foster a culture of engineering excellence and mentor engineers of all experience levels.
  • Work with product managers, designers, and data scientists to shape the future of order management at Square.
  • Connect with the broader mobile community at Square to share best practices and drive improvements in the mobile domain.


Qualifications


You have:


  • 8+ years of Android software engineering experience, developing scalable production software and an excellent command of engineering fundamentals.
  • The ability to lead and mentor a group of software engineers spanning multiple teams to deliver solutions while fostering growth.
  • A passion for building mobile products at all levels – from the low-level architectural decisions to the individual pixels.
  • An eagerness to share your ideas, and openness to those of others.
  • A desire to build products that our merchants will depend on every day to run their business.


Additional Information


Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.


Zone A: USD $202,500 - USD $247,500

Zone B: USD $192,400 - USD $235,200

Zone C: USD $182,300 - USD $222,800

Zone D: USD $172,200 - USD $210,400
