Position Title: Senior Fiber Engineer (T4)

Role

The Senior Fiber engineers are regional. They are responsible for all aspects of fiber design and allocation, route design, map creation, and cable inventory orders for the physical Outside and Inside Plants areas on jobs assigned to them. The Senior Fiber Engineer has a heavy emphasis on Pre-Sales and RFP support along with conducting management level presentations to internal and external customers. Additionally, this position will be responsible for the design and deployment of Crown Castle outside plant fiber with key strategic partners and on large scale projects. This position will represent Crown Castle in a professional manner if front of customers (internal and external), utilities, municipalities, and contractors; and, be able to work cross functionally within a matrix organizational structure to achieve implementation goals in conjunction with RF Engineering, Operations, Regulatory, Finance Product Development and Supply Chain Management.

Responsibilities

  • Attend Kick-Off meetings (examples when new backbone, lateral, and/or riser fiber is required.)
  • Review sales engineering design and determine backbone fiber route.
  • Complete Cost Requests from Sales Engineering with firm costs to be provided for all necessary splicing based on existing network fiber conditions.
  • Obtain necessary circuit identifiers from groups; or create as required.
  • Create a Fiber design maps for A-Z fiber locations.
  • Design fiber route and create all necessary splicing prints and work orders for vendors performing splicing work within the active backbone.
  • Provide fiber assignments to Construction Team for lateral fibers to last demarc panel
  • Fiber Engineering responsible for all backbone splicing & end/end testing.
  • Work with utilities in underground and aerial right-of-way applications.
  • Obtain Quote/Bids from contractors for all backbone splicing & end/end testing.
  • Create Requisitions for Purchase Order approval and payment to vendors.
  • Manage vendors/contractors during splicing & testing of circuits.
  • Submit all necessary Change management notifications and adhere to field activity policies and guidelines.
  • Provide Operations/Provisioning with final DLR’s & test shots for closeout
  • After completion close out tasks in appropriate system(s).
  • Approve all vendor invoices for the project.
  • Work hand in hand with Fiber Construction Managers.
  • Create WO’s for all overbuild and expansion projects.
  • Review capacity reports and plan network augments on high utilization fiber routes.
  • Fiber Design engineers are responsible for all emergency and trouble response. All engineers participate in On-Call rotation.
  • Work jointly with the NOC, Field Operations, and Change management; and mobilize necessary repair crews to isolate and restore any fiber impairments.

Education/Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • BS/BA with preference to Civil, Construction, or Electrical, Engineering Degrees or equivalent work experience required
  • A valid driver’s license required

Experience/Minimum Requirements:

  • Three (3)+ years of fiber engineering and construction management experience, as well as three (3)+ years field construction management experience with preference to both outside plant and inside plant fiber construction.
  • Knowledge of Outside Plant Construction techniques (aerial & underground) preferred
  • Working knowledge of NESC, NEC and OSHA standards preferred

Reports to: District Manager

Working Conditions: This role falls into our hybrid work model working in your assigned office approximately 60% of the time (3 days per week) and where you do your best work 40% (2 days per week). There is an expectation of collaboration with teammates and stakeholders for moments that matter that could require travel.
