Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
The Senior LNG and Propane Plant Technician performs duties under little or no supervision in connection with the operation, maintenance, testing, inspection, calibration, installation, repair and removal of associated mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment at Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facilities.
Typical Duties
Performs work in safe manner. Complies with all applicable safety rules, regulations and LNG procedures. Performs all work that they are qualified and trained to do in a manner to protect themselves, fellow employees and the public from injury.
Operates, checks, and maintains purification & liquefaction, vaporization, truck transfer, and all related process equipment in the LNG plants. Occasionally performs shift operations to cover vaporization, liquefaction or standby mode coverage when experiencing equipment issues.
Operates and monitors LNG plant instrumentation for proper operation related to temperatures, pressures, flows, levels, etc. Reads and/or records operating data to maintain necessary plant logs. Analyzes data and makes adjustments to controls to provide safe and efficient operations.
Remove, replace, overhaul and bench test valve positioners and actuators.
Assist the specialist, engineer or supervisor with the installation and upgrading of software, to include graphic display creation or modifications.
Assist the specialist, engineer or supervisor in the tuning of the plant control system including proportional, integral, and derivative algorithms.
Calibrate, install and maintain temperature measurement equipment such as: thermo-couples, RTD’s.
Calibrate, install and maintain pressure measurement equipment such as: electronic and SMART pressure transmitters and mechanical gauges.
Calibrate, install and maintain level measuring devices such as: cable type float devices, float switches, magnetic level and sight gauges.
Calibrate, install and maintain flow measurement devices such as: rotameters, paddle, vortex shredding, and differential pressure transmitters.
Calibrate, install and maintain analytical measuring equipment such as: CO2 analyzers.
Utilizes the distributive control system to monitor and analyze process variables to maintain efficiency, reliability and process control
Utilizes P&ID drawings, ladder logic diagrams, blueprints and schematics during regular operations and troubleshooting evolutions.
Calibrate and test safety equipment and devices to include: emergency shutdown devices, fire and gas detection systems.
Perform minor non-certified welding utilizing either SMAW (Arc) or GMAW (Mig)
Install new mechanical equipment or perform parts replacement, make recommendations concerning replacement or equipment upgrades.
Install new electrical equipment or perform parts replacement, make recommendations concerning replacement or equipment upgrades on low level DC and equipment up to 480V AC.
Perform visual inspection of all piping, storage tanks and plant equipment for leakage and corrosion.
Maintenance, overhaul and operation of various plant valves to include: relief, globe, gate, angle, ball and needle.
Unloads and loads LNG and refrigerant gases.
Perform housekeeping duties throughout the plant and grounds to maintain safe working conditions and general site cleanliness/appearance.
Perform assigned security duties according to plant security plan.
Complete required physicals and training to comply with Department of Transportation and Office of Pipeline Safety regulations.
Purchase materials as directed.
As requested, handles preliminary work arrangements such as work management systems, parts availability, shop inventory; maintains/develops Bill of Materials, procurement of material and service, and initiate purchase orders in company procurement software for approval.
Lead, train, evaluate and instruct employees in the performance of duties associated with the LNG Plant Technician position.
Respond to plant alarms both as a primary responder and in support of other operators within 30 minutes or less as needed.
