This individual will lead and supervise the Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health (BIAH) Companion Animals, House Pets and Equines | Boehringer Ingelheim (boehringer-ingelheim.com) Meeting and Events team, including directing the overall planning, strategy and delivery for all internal and external meetings and events.

  • In this role, you will drive BIAH success by designing internal and external meeting and event strategy in conjunction with Marketing and Sales and then leads a team to deliver the strategy for all professional interactions with employees, customers, associations, key professional conferences, virtual conferences, Key External Expert (KEE) meetings and other events.
  • Key expert advisor to US Commercial Business leadership including Species, Marketing and Sales leadership. Influences leadership to investment in technology and innovation driving maximized engagement.
  • End-to-end accountability for the strategy, design, governance, planning and implementation of all BIAH internal and external meetings and events across all species and diverse go-to-market approaches.
  • The Sr. AD, Meeting and Events delivers strategic direction to team members responsible for a centralized meetings and events team to ensure creative and innovative experiences for employees and customers while balancing consistency, cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and scalability to the organization for meetings/events and congresses. Accountable for ensuring anticipated return on financial investments for engagements.

This leader will have the opportunity to lead the following for the success for our Animal Health Business:
  • Develop overall Marketing strategy with Species Marketing leadership teams, and for meetings, events and other adjacencies, drive implementation and execution of this strategy through Marketing and Sales teams.
  • Negotiate sponsorships for BIAH tradeshow and conferences across all species, e.g. VMX, WVC, AAHA, AVMA, AAEP, Super Zoo, Global Pet Expo, etc. (Can you spell out the show names?)
  • Build and maintain relationships with conference organizers, external vendors and internal stakeholders
  • Develop metrics and processes to measure event and tradeshow success and proactively provide analysis and recommendation to management for continual program improvement.
  • Manage and track annual tradeshow and KEE events budget of ~$10MM to facilitate and support key marketing initiatives and key customer engagement
  • Provide thought leadership to Marketing and Sales to drive species strategy through these important customer facing events. Add vision, design and creativity to tradeshows and industry events to demonstrate BIAH’s innovation and leadership in the industry
  • Delivers strategic direction to team members responsible for a centralized meetings and events team to ensure consistency, cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and scalability to the organization for meetings/events and congresses, ensuring activities adhere to company SOPs.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution preferred; MBA preferred
  • Twelve-plus (12+) years’ experience in pharmaceutical industry or relevant business experience (i.e., large scale direct to consumer events or association meetings, animal health, biotech or related) required
  • Solid understanding of current and future market trends in meeting and events area
  • Proven success working cross functionally internally and vendor management expertise.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and ability to think with innovation at the core, with excellent project management expertise and delivery success.
  • Excellent problem solving, negotiating and conflict management skills, with the ability to find solutions through ambiguous and challenging circumstances
  • Strong communication, strategic, analytical and financial skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Up to 50% travel

Preferred:
  • Experience leading teams
  • CTSM or meeting planner certification preferred
