Sr. Linux Engineer - Remote

Your Role:

The Sr. Linux Engineer will be responsible for providing senior level expertise on decisions and priorities regarding system enhancements (software and hardware updates) that will improve the performance and reliability of the system. This will include facilitating the establishment and implementation of standards and guidelines that guide the design of technology solutions such as: implementing solutions requiring integration of multiple platforms, operating systems, and applications across the enterprise.

Your work: (Essential responsibilities)

The role will develop solutions to resolve highly complex technical and business issues while being recognized expert in systems administration. The induvial will be expected to provide guidance and internal consulting expertise toward integration multiple systems. This will include providing guidance/training to other staff. Lastly, the roll will develop and maintains product lifecycles for enterprise level software and hardware.

• Full IT system lifecycle administration from installation to decommissioning of systems in both physical data center and cloud
• Perform end to end management of on-premise and cloud based Linux systems
• Project leadership ability including mapping out technical and business dependencies, milestones and timelines.

• Proactively contribute to innovation efforts that support the alignment of platform and IT technologies to business requirements with focus on user experience, performance, ROI, and TCO
• Provide in-depth technical expertise on large-scale projects
• Lead project based technical teams
• Responsible for ensuring uptime of critical business systems and infrastructure through monitoring and timely remediation of critical infrastructure issues
• Measurement, optimization, and tuning of system performance and ensuring that systems will run reliably and are highly available in a 24/7 production environment
• Proactively monitor the health and utilization of systems
• Install, harden and patch operating systems
• Recommend and implement performance-enhancement, reliability-enhancement solutions
• Analyze the IT environment to detect critical deficiencies, and recommend solutions for improvement
• Plan, coordinate, and execute installation new releases and upgrades of hardware/software
• Integrate workflow procedures for supporting rapid development, deployment and integration of new software
• Automate manual tasks; create/improve small tools that help make team operations more efficient.
• Develop automation with Ansible, bash, python, or related technologies
• Mentor team on automation
• Drive standardization, simplification, and automation of operational workflows
• Serve on a rotating 24/7 on-call support team
• Implement Infrastructure-as-Code
• Serve as subject matter expert to assist with incident management resolution and root cause analysis
• Analyze situations to distinguish between hardware, OS and application issues and route accordingly
• Plan maintenance windows during minimal use windows
• Coordinate and communicate support activities with key stakeholders
• Assist in defining and designing system specifications and procedures
• Ensure adherence to all regulatory compliance processes and requirements
• Support security audits, accreditation and certification processes
• Partner with GRC teams to lead deployment of secure and compliant infrastructure and services on-prem and in the cloud
• Partner with application teams to understand performance and capacity requirements of solutions and services
• Assist with process improvements and implementing best practices
• Create procedure documentation and develop SOPs and run books
• Update existing documentation and identify and draft new documentation where appropriate
• Stay up to date on best practices involving Linux based systems and recommend changes to keep systems and infrastructure secure and robust

What would make us excited about you?

• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or Computer Engineering degree
• Master’s Degree preferred
• Intimate and extensive knowledge of Linux Administration and Engineering
• 5+ years of hands-on IT systems or relevant experience in a commercial production environment
• 5+ years of experience in Linux Administration
• 5+ years of experience troubleshooting skills in a multi-user high availability environment
• Extensive experience of working on RedHat Satellite
• Viewed as a subject matter expertise in domain
• Experience working on deployment and management systems such as Ansible, Ansible Tower, Cloud Formation, etc.
• Experience working on Cisco UCS server infrastructure
• Familiarity with compliance and patch management tools like Tanium, Qualys, Vulcan
• Familiar with DevOps toolchain, i.e. BitBucket, JIRA, Jenkins Pipeline
• Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work alternative coverage schedules
• Ability to explain complex IT concepts in simple terms
• Strong troubleshooting skills of very complex systems
• Strong initiative and passionate about learning new technologies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• AWS configuration, deployment and support experience
• Exposure to distributed systems networking concepts & protocols
• Familiarity with Application Performance Management tools (NewRelic, AWS CloudWatch, Dynatrace etc.)
• Fundamental Understanding of Networking & Security

The national average salary range for this position is $149,760-$166,400. However, we have a location-based compensation structure. Our salary ranges vary and are calculated based on county of residence. The full [salary range] [hourly rate range] for this position across all the states we hire in is $149,760-$199,500. This role also includes an opportunity for a company-wide annual discretionary bonus, through our Annual Incentive Plan (AIP), of up to 15% of eligible pay.
