Role and Responsibilities
The Compliance Senior Manager will serve as a compliance advisor to Samsung Electronics America, Inc. (SEA) and all North America Headquarters (NAHQ) divisions of Samsung. The Compliance Senior Manager will be responsible for identifying risks within the business and developing, maintaining, and implementing policies and procedures, training, and controls to ensure Samsung’s businesses are operating effectively and appropriately with regard to laws and regulations that impact them. This role also includes participating in compliance monitoring, risk assessment, and auditing efforts to ensure our compliance program is operating effectively. Compliance Senior Manager will have regular interactions with Samsung’s businesses and will advise functions throughout the company.
This role will be based in Ridgefield Park, NJ, and may require travel to other Samsung offices in North America which consists of the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Proactively work with Samsung’s North America businesses to identify risk areas and gaps and develop tools to drive compliance within the business
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and training by the Company’s compliance strategies and priorities, applicable laws, regulations, and industry codes
  • Oversee key controls within the Compliance Program to improve its effectiveness and ensure compliance with regulatory obligations and internal procedures
  • Partner with the business on key business initiatives to provide guidance and assist in the identification of risks by providing strategic advice on business activities
  • Partner with the Legal Department as well as other functions, as needed, to resolve and provide solutions for complex issues
  • Provide support on the drafting and implementation of Compliance Training initiatives, including Annual Compliance Training
  • Conduct compliance risk assessments to determine whether procedures are being followed and lead remediation efforts
  • Develop and implement a communication plan to build compliance awareness
  • Assist with managing the database and developing analyses to identify compliance risks and trends
  • Run internal investigations into suspected Compliance violations, which includes conducting interviews with all related parties, review of confidential documents to determine potential policy violations, and determination of recommended discipline and/or remedial actions resulting from the investigation
  • Work with Samsung’s Korea headquarters compliance colleagues to rollout global compliance initiatives
  • Work with other compliance colleagues to ensure consistency and leverage best practices
  • Assist with drafting compliance-related reports and presentations and implement monitoring tools in key risk areas
  • Assist with managing Regional Compliance meetings, including management of agendas and presentations
Skills and Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • At least 6 years of progressive professional experience in legal and compliance preferably in a consumer products industry
  • Experience counseling businesses on compliance issues and arriving at efficient solutions
  • Ability to work independently while providing efficient business-oriented advice
  • Demonstrated effectiveness with multiple stakeholders and diverse constituencies.
  • Executive presence combined with strong interpersonal and organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to proactively provide sound advice and exercise good judgment in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Experience creating and effectuating corporate compliance programs and procedures and implementing compliance training programs strongly preferred
  • Experience in the design and implementation of compliance-focused management information reports and the design and collection of compliance metrics strongly preferred
  • Experience and understanding of working in a complex global environment, including sensitivity to cultures and practices outside the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Juris Doctor or MBA
  • Experience in conducting investigations
  • Compliance risk assessment, risk management, or audit experience
  • Knowledge and experience with some or all of the following subjects:
    • Government contracting, government procurement laws, and regulations
    • Workplace safety
    • Product Safety
    • Environmental regulations
    • Customs and trade
    • Sanctions screening
    • Consumer credit regulations
    • Anti-trust and fair competition
