The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) Sr. Manager is responsible for the delivery of all EH&S services required for operating research laboratories, CLIA lab environments, and general office environments. You will be instrumental in creating new support programs, managing existing services or transitioning services from others. Additionally, you will assist the Director of Facilities Management with strategic planning for 23andMe's Bay Area and St. Louis offices and provide input on budget development and the department's financial performance.

- Administer company hazardous, non-hazardous waste, and recycling programs.
- Develop ongoing employee training programs, emergency contingency plans, communications, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct monthly safety and new hire EHS training.
- Track success of the EH&S training program via training tracking system or process and update training to meet new regulatory requirements.
- Develop and manage a chemical procurement, management, and reporting system for all locations.
- Develop, manage & report on various waste streams, including, but not limited to hazmat and bio-waste for applicable locations.
- Responsible for updating EH&S standards & policies as regulations change.
- Conducts and coordinates regulatory compliance audits, ensures the appropriate actions are taken to resolve audit findings and implements the programs to prevent future recurrence.
- Completes incident investigation and analysis and performs site safety assessments.
- Maintains applicable safety and environmental permits and permit conditions.
- Works with the various local business partners to establish contingency plans that address potential emergencies including hazardous materials spills, fires, evacuations, labor interruptions, and other potential business interruptions.
- Develop and implement an ergonomics program across the sites focused on workplace ergonomic risk factors, assessment and mitigation
- Partner with the Facility Manager to develop sustainability-related initiatives including but not limited to the reduction of natural resource usage and the minimization of waste.
- Ability and willingness to travel between locations (South San Francisco & Sunnyvale) on a regular basis.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science or related field; alternatively, scientific degree followed by formal EH&S training.
- 4+ years working in a multi-site EH&S setting in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
- Certification as a CSP, CIH, CHMM, or pursuing certification.
- Project management experience.
- Experience with budget creation and management.
- Extensive development and use of metrics for the evaluations of programs/initiatives.
- Proficiency in computer software including Google Docs, Microsoft Office applications.
- Proactive and self-driven with a can-do attitude.
- Outstanding commitment to customer service and quality.
- Strong sense of urgency and responsiveness.
- Proven track record demonstrating the ability to think and act quickly in emergency situations.
- Demonstrated history of effective communication, presenting to senior leadership,, strong briefing and writing skills, and comfort delivering finished work to executive leadership.
- Provide direction, mentorship, and coaching to direct report while demonstrating leadership consistent with 23andMe cultural values and mission.
Strongly Preferred
- A Master's degree in Environmental Health, Safety Engineering or Occupational Health.
- Certification as a CSP, CIH, CHMM, or pursuing certification.
- Trained ergonomist.

23andMe takes a market-based approach to pay, and amounts will vary depending on your geographic location. The salary range reflected here is for a candidate based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
