The Job: The Sr. Manager, School and Teacher Programs will lead the Museum’s science professional development programs for K-8 schools and teachers. This role is responsible for integrating the work of the Institute for Quality Science Teaching (IQST) and the Science Leadership Initiative (SLI) while maintaining distinct program offerings for increasing teacher self-efficacy for three-dimensional science instruction and building leadership capacity for whole-school science improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic planning, development, delivery, and evolution of the Museum’s professional development and leadership development opportunities for teachers of science in grades K through 8 in support of the Education division’s strategic priorities.
  • Plan and implement IQST courses and the SLI School Partners Program.
  • Develop tuition and fee-based programs, especially for enactment of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and whole-school science improvement
  • Build opportunities for collaboration, coordination, and integration with the other programs within the Professional Learning Department and the Education Division
  • Advance the Education division’s strategic priority of becoming a source of inclusive and equitable science learning by building internal expertise in equitable science instruction
  • Support efforts to research the impact and evaluate the effectiveness of Professional Learning programs
  • Contribute to the field of science education and build visibility for the Museum’s programs through conferences, cultivating professional networks, and writing white papers.
  • Identify, remain current in, and apply best practices in K-8 science education as well as teacher education and professional learning for K-8 teachers, and support staff growth in those areas.
  • Develop and maintain productive partnerships with education communities and external organizations, such as universities, school districts, individual schools, and professional groups.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in science, education or related discipline and 5-7 years’ related experience required, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience managing complex teams
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Deep familiarity with the K-12 science education landscape required; experience as a formal K-12 science educator (with increased emphasis on grades 3-8)
  • Experience with implementing and supporting educators as they implement Next Generation Science Standards is required
  • Familiarity with programming in a variety of educational settings including schools, out of school time, science centers and/or other museums
  • Strong interpersonal skills and self-awareness required
  • Detail oriented; excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking required
  • Must demonstrate comfort in a team environment, with strong collaboration skills
  • Excellent project management, planning and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Google G Suite required
  • Experience in using digital media and technology in educational and/or program settings required
