The Payroll Tax Specialist is a key individual contributor and an essential part of a team supporting in-house Payroll processing and jurisdictional reporting as well as Business and Contractor licensing. The function is responsible for ensuring adherence to all jurisdictional depositing and reporting requirements for Payroll taxes. This position will also be responsible for opening and or renewing business licenses and/or contractor licensing per jurisdiction as required. This may include understanding company needs and jurisdictional requirements. The role will also be accountable for documentation of departmental operational procedures as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure that tax profiles for new hires and transfers are setup in according to their states and local jurisdictions.
  • Coordinate and maintain local and state tax codes.
  • Responsible for the payroll tax function to ensure compliance with IRS and state tax regulations.
  • Research, analyze, and evaluate tax changes for impact to company and associates.
  • Investigate, resolve, and respond to tax authority notices and correspondence in a timely manner
  • Responsible for identifying, registering, and administering new payroll taxes as work locations are created.
  • Responsible for managing current tax accounts and making updates or closing accounts when locations are closed or moved.
  • Perform audits/controls for proper tax set up and reviews.
  • Assist with the Quarterly reconciliation of W-2 files.
  • Distribute reports associated with the processing of payroll.
  • Encourage innovative ideas that are not in the current mainstream and ability to reset expectations as needed.
  • Ability to understand business needs to consistently reinvent the way we approach processes and work in general.
  • Assist with sales and use tax audits as needed.
  • Basic understanding of Payroll accounting.
  • Enter and ensure accuracy of all withholding orders, garnishments, and tax levy’s.
  • Provide support for various audit requirements.
  • Assist with various projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years’ experience with US multistate payroll tax
  • Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent experience
  • Experience with multiple FEIN’s, Multiple States, and Multiple localities
  • Strong understanding of payroll process flow and Federal, State and Local tax regulations
  • Knowledge of state reciprocity, W2’s, and withholding taxes required
  • Union experience preferred but not required
  • ADP experience preferred but not required

Pay: $72,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
