Position Summary:The Scientific Editor supports editorial and publication activities, including manuscripts for scientific journals, grant applications, scientific documents, institutional publications, reports, and seminars.Better at Work. Join us and you'll quickly see why St. Jude is consistently ranked by our employees on Glassdoor as a "Best Place to Work."This position is open to remote consideration.Job Responsibilities:• Support editorial and publication activities as directed, including review and editing of manuscripts for scientific journals, grant applications, and other scientific documents; support the production of institutional publications, such as the annual Scientific Report.• Provide advice to authors (e.g., faculty, staff, fellows, and students) about effective approach, presentation, and publication/submission strategies.• Track and report progress on editorial projects.• Support development and presentation of seminars or other educational opportunities for St. Jude investigators.• Participate in meetings of national editorial and related organizations to acquire new information and improve editing skills.• Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.Minimum Education and/or Training:• Master's degree in life sciences or a related field required.• PhD preferred.Minimum Experience:• Minimum requirement: 2+ years of experience as a scientific editor or relevant research and publication experience.• Experience in the construction of scientific documents (journal articles or grant applications) preferred.• Experience in experimental design; statistical principles; effective display of scientific data; and publication policies, procedures, and ethics.• Experience in the construction of NIH grant applications preferred.• ELS (Editor in the Life Sciences) certification by the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences preferred.CompensationIn recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
