Description
The Staff Associate will be responsible for assisting the laboratory's postdoctoral fellows and graduate students with their experimental work. He/she will prepare reagents, perform molecular cloning methods such as plasmid construction, DNA transfections and DNA preparations, and carry out protein assays such as immunoprecipitation and Western blots. There will also be need for cell culture and flow cytometry.
Minimum Qualifications:
A. Functional Knowledge: 30% time carrying out experiments. Will require knowledge of methods, equipment, and readouts of results from enzyme assays and flow cytometry.
B. Problem Solving: 20% time in solving technical problems with experiments and equipment.
C. Decision Making/Autonomy: 20% time performing experiments on his/her own projects. We hope the candidate will have some time to carry out small projects of his/her own, under the direct supervision of the mentor.
D. Technical Expertise: 20% time acquiring and utilizing expertise in performing advanced methods and equipment. We expect the candidate to be a repository of knowledge in the use of various techniques in use.
E. Communication: 10% time presenting results in our weekly group meetings.
He/she will be expected to carry out experiments and procedures that might involve independent work over several days. The position will require considerable individual initiative in executing the work. We will outline plans and goals, but the methods and experiments to achieve the goals will need to be devised. He/she will be expected to order reagents as needed, and create protocols and devise conditions for the experiments that are not yet established or known.
Preferred Qualifications:
Basic knowledge of chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology. Experience with utilizing equipment such as centrifuges, gel electrophoresis apparatus, blotting, imaging, scanning. Computer handling of images and data.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in specific research field and 4 years experience preferred.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
