-
Oversee manufacturing processes within the mechanical engineering team, from developing and driving design requirements to determining production and supplier development strategies.
-
Use knowledge of electromechanical assembly design to define and design mechanical hardware and wiring harnesses from concept to production, and draft product drawings and manufacturing instructions, using computer-aided design (CAD) software (including SolidWorks).
-
Collaborate with internal software and hardware teams as well as external suppliers and partners to ensure manufacturing design processes are built accordingly.
-
Participate in the design of electrical wiring harnesses, connector systems, switches, and power distribution within the vehicle environment, using knowledge of printed circuit board (PCB) design and injection molded and stamped part design, plating, and sealing.
-
Use knowledge of automotive metals, plastics, and composites along with the manufacturing techniques of each material to assemble components at system level.
-
Responsible for concept design, schematic and routing layout, analysis, testing, and electrical certification, and engage in electrical component design, including switches, connectors, terminals, and sealing systems.
-
Use good written communication skills to draft specifications for components, requirements, and test and deployment plans. Apply design failure mode and effect analysis (DFMEA) to ensure components and systems function properly.
-
Review and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
-
Responsible for engineering deliverables related to assigned hardware parts and wiring harnesses.
-
Design and develop block diagrams, electrical device transmittals, and wiring harness documentation.
-
Employ various design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) methodologies to reduce manufacturing issues, production costs, and assembly errors.
-
Use good verbal communication skills to converse with engineers or other personnel regarding operating procedures, system malfunctions, quotes, or technical information.
-
Review and manage prototype component sourcing and hardware test programs.
-
Perform design reviews and validation, and support production build and requirements management.
-
Use problem solving tools (6 Panel’s, 8D’s, and Red-X) to identify, correct, and eliminate recurring production/quality/warranty issues.
-
Ensure parts are delivered on-time and within budget, and produce documentation to support technical robustness of design.
