Pay Rate/Range: Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and application of fair, equitable and consistent pay practices at the University. The full salary range for this position is $27.09/hr. - $43.58/hour. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $27.09/hr. - $34.35/hr.

Assists the lab manager for Dr. Kenneth Kosik's laboratory - a large lab consisting of about 30 members (including post docs, graduate students, project scientists and undergraduate students). Maintains stocks and aliquots the reagents for the Kosik lab in the stem cell lab. Helps with administrative and lab management tasks such as autoclaving biohazardous materials, glassware and managing stocks for the Kosik lab. Places orders for the reagents and equipment. Coordinates distribution of reagents to the other labs upon request. Ensure that the SCRO protocols for stem cell usage, IACUC protocols for mouse experiments and BUAs are up to date and works with the lab manager to renew them. Trains new lab members on safely using autoclaves. Ensures that the pieces of equipment in the lab are functioning correctly. Under supervision, performs standard laboratory experimental procedures such as PCR amplification of human DNA samples and coordination of Sanger sequencing to detect novel mutations. Performs extraction of total RNA in brain samples and assess the quality, reports the results to graduate students and post docs. The successful candidate must be able to work as part of a larger collaborative group working on neurodegeneration and neural plasticity.

Lab Maintenance (70% daily):
Receiving & distributing packages for the lab, periodic defrosting and reorganizing -20˚C and -80˚C freezers. Train & assist new members on using autoclave
machines, keep the lab organized and label all the common reagents. Makes room reservations for lab meetings, and prepares a list of presenters. Sends weekly reminder for meetings. Keep and update google spreadsheets of all the lab organizational protocols & common lab reagents; maintain stem cell and cell culture reagents stocks for lab members.
Experiments (30% daily):
Performs standard laboratory experimental procedures such as PCR amplification of human DNA samples and coordination of Sanger sequencing to detect novel mutations. Performs extraction of total RNA in brain samples and assess the quality, reports the results to graduate students and post docs.
