Staff Writer

Artsy's mission is to expand the art market to support more artists and art in the world. Artsy has created the world's largest two-sided art marketplace, offering more than 1 million works by 100,000 artists from 4,000 leading galleries, fairs, auction houses, and institutions across 190 countries.


Artsy seeks a Staff Writer to write articles on the art world and the art market for our audience of art collectors and art industry professionals.

The Staff Writer will write sharp, engaging articles, including quick-turnaround profiles, evergreen explainers, show roundups, artist profiles, market reports, spotlights on galleries, and more. They will interview collectors, gallerists, artists, auction specialists, and other key art world stakeholders; identify trends; analyze data; and cover major art-world events and fairs. The role will have a particular focus on Artsy's vast network of partner galleries. Through quick, timely and diligent writing and reporting, the Staff Writer will position Artsy as a must-read art publication.

The Staff Writer is an integral member of Artsy's Editorial team and reports to the Director of Content (who oversees Editorial, Curatorial, and Social Media), and will also collaborate frequently with Artsy's B2B Marketing team. Additionally, the Staff Writer works closely with colleagues across the Marketing organization, as well as the Auctions, Galleries, and Fairs teams.

What You'll Do:

  • Write 5+ stories per week, including sourcing images and building layouts
  • Pitch stories on galleries, the art world, the market, and collecting to Artsy's in-house editors
  • Report on the ground in New York and other cities during major art world moments
  • Collaborate with the Editorial, Curatorial, and B2B Marketing teams to contribute to Content and Marketing strategy and production
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Artsy organization to create content that features Artsy's gallery partners, fair partners, and auctions
  • Create artist bios and other content that appears across Artsy on web and the app

Who You Are:

  • You have 3+ years of work experience writing in an editorial or journalistic capacity.
  • You have a deep knowledge of contemporary art, familiarity with art history, and understanding of the art market.
  • You have demonstrated skill with writing, reporting, interviewing, pitching, and conceiving stories at a fast pace.
  • You are comfortable using tools like ChatGPT and Bard to facilitate content production.
  • You are extremely organized, detail-oriented, and always meet deadlines.
  • You are flexible, embrace opportunities for growth, and enjoy working both independently and as part of a close-knit team.
  • You are currently authorized to live and work in the United States.
  • This role will be based in New York.

The salary range for this role is $55,000-$70,000 annually. Artsy is committed to equitable compensation practices, and your offer will depend on the relevant experience and skillset you bring to the team.
