MSOT Fieldwork Coordinator

The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator (AFWC) is a full-time core faculty member and is part of a team responsible for the development and oversight of student fieldwork experiences. In addition to administering fieldwork requirements, the AFWC will be assigned other institutional duties, such as mentoring students, advising thesis groups, and participating in department or university service. The AFWC will participate on a team of academic fieldwork coordinators within the department. The faculty member collaborates with others and reports to the Occupational Therapy MSOT Program Director.


Essential Functions:

  • Provide support in the oversight of the fieldwork experiences of the MSOT program in accordance with the needs of the program and the vision, strategic plan, and goals of the university.
  • Coordinates the fieldwork process by selecting and developing sites, scheduling experiences, overseeing administrative requirements (i.e., contracts and student health records), and fostering positive relations with current and potential fieldwork partners.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with the on-site clinical educators and provides training and support to enhance and develop fieldwork experiences that align with course learning objectives.
  • Monitor quality of fieldwork experiences and instruction by clinical educators through site visits and student evaluations of experiences.
  • Provide consultation for students throughout the academic program regarding preparation for and selection of fieldwork experiences as well as for students and clinical educators to promote the students successful completion of their fieldwork.
  • Participate in weekly departmental fieldwork meetings and participate in interdepartmental fieldwork meetings.
  • Ensure that the fieldwork program meets the following requirements:
  • Support the MSOT program by engaging in teaching related to fieldwork or clinical expertise.
  • Maintain currency in the area of expertise by participating in scholarship (e.g., scholarship of application, scholarship of teaching and learning) as defined by ACOTE.
  • Attend departmental meetings, graduation ceremonies, and other university meetings or events, as required.
  • Foster an educational environment that is conducive to learning, respect, integrity, teamwork, and professionalism.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to all constituencies and partners of the university.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director of the MSOT program.

Qualifications:

  • An earned doctoral degree in occupational therapy or a related major and awarded by an institution that is accredited by a regional accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
  • Initial registration by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
  • Current and unencumbered licensure in the state of California.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of documented clinical experience relevant to the curriculum of the university's occupational therapy program.
  • Desire to engage in scholarship (e.g., scholarship of application, scholarship of teaching and learning).
  • Experience in the management and development of faculty and/or staff.
  • Superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills in working with diverse constituencies inside and outside the campus community.
  • Skill in planning and implementing projects with vision, creativity, energy, and collegiality.
  • Ability to meet the minimum requirements of accrediting, state, and federal agencies for education, work experience, and certification/licensing to perform in the stated position.
  • Knowledge of institutional, accrediting, state, and federal standards, laws, and/or regulations for higher education.
  • Facility in using computer technology systems current in higher education.
  • University level teaching experience is preferred.
  • Fieldwork or program coordination experience preferred.
  • $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year Salary is dependent on experience and education

Work Environment:

  • Standard office setting.
  • The AFWC must be able to travel to additional campus locations and perform site visits as needed.
  • Typically, duties are performed in an office environment while seated at a desk or computer workstation.
  • An incumbent is subject to contact with others, frequent interruptions, noise from talking or office equipment and demanding timelines.

Physical Demands:

  • The incumbent regularly sits for long periods, walks short distances on a regular basis.
  • Operates an electronic keyboard or other office machines; reaches; speaks clearly and distinctly to answer telephones and to provide information; operates computer; hears and understands voices over telephone and in person; and lifts, carries, and/or moves objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
