Your Opportunity Stantec's Water group has an opportunity for an enthusiastic Data Scientist who has credible experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Deep Learning technologies. This strategic position will complement the existing team by researching, designing, and implementing latest data science techniques and approaches that will help us develop... transformational and cutting-edge solutions focused towards helping our communities grow sustainably and re-invent themselves as smart, safe, connected and engaged ecosystems. Stantec is in the early stages of developing a digital platform that leverages the voice of the community to identify hidden operational issues and design systems with the community in mind. The platform specifically focuses upon analyzing human interactions through speech, text and images, and combine the insights with operationally significant information to enable transformational asset management, proactive customer service and decision-making in Real Time. We are looking for candidates that have experience in developing tools that analyze unstructured social media, news, blogs, surveys and other online text and image data. Candidates having experience with developing the analytics using Microsoft Azure suite of tools are preferred for this position. The successful candidate will aid with technical strategy, data science and engineering, and development within an Agile software development team. Your Key Responsibilities Research and develop advanced algorithms to conduct Natural Language Processing (NLP), image processing, advanced and semantic information search, extraction, classification, summarization and exploration Develop and automate data collection, analysis, and extraction pipelines Extend the algorithms and data pipelines so that it could be used as reusable components Work with remote teams for development and implementation as needed Provide insights from data science perspective in solution architecture and user interface design Remain updated in the rapidly changing field of machine learning and implement the best practices and technologies Showcase Stantec's credibility in the field of data science by publishing white papers and presenting at industry conference Be well organized, self-motivated, and enjoy finding solutions to problems using data Qualifications Capabilities and Credentials Knowledge of implementing text analysis and representation techniques (such as n-grams, bag of words, sentiment analysis etc), classification, extraction, summarization, and clustering algorithms Knowledge of implementing deep learning techniques focused on image recognition Proficiency in using tools such as Python, R, SQL or similar Experience with machine learning libraries such as TensorFlow, OpenCV or similar Experience with using Microsoft Azure resources such as Azure Machine Learning, Data Bricks, Cognitive services, Synapse or similar Experience with writing academic styled papers for presenting both the methods used and results for data science projects Can work well in a team environment without direct supervision and ability to productively work from home Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent time-management skills Education and Experience 3 to 6 years of experience in implementing NLP and deep learning technologies Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering with specialization in Data Science / Statistics / Applied Mathematics / Operation Research or other related quantitative fields.
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
