Join our team and help us keep communities connected.Your OpportunityStantec is seeking one or more creative and motivated professionals to support our Transportation Planning Group in Columbia, South Carolina. The selected candidate(s) will support the group’s growing local and national practice and work directly with industry-leading transportation planners, designers and engineers. Preferred candidates will have a strong interest in transportation and environmental planning and data analysis, with a background in community planning, environmental planning, engineering, and/or urban design. Candidates must be willing to travel and ideally have a valid driver’s license.The ideal candidate enjoys producing work at a fast pace, will be interested in the development of client-facing materials, analysis and summary of data, technical writing, and internal resource management. Technical experience with at least one of these key software programs is a requirement: ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or SketchUp. Above all, the successful candidate will be highly self-motivated and curious, have a friendly, outgoing demeanor, and be able to multitask, ask questions to continually improve, and learn from feedback. Additionally, the role will involve gaining experience in all matters related to the National Environmental Policy Act and State(s) Environmental Policy Act (NEPA/SEPA), along with gaining experience coordinating with relevant DOT/agency partners and stakeholders. Candidates will also assist with long-range transportation planning (including developing Comprehensive Transportation Plans) and support project planning for a variety of clients including local government entities, Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO), and Rural Planning Organizations (RPO)Candidates will be expected to take initiative, work independently when needed, manage multiple tasks concurrently, be an excellent collaborator, and represent the consultant team professionally.Your Key Responsibilities• Analysis and summary of data, including US Census, crash records, or performance monitoring resources• Report layout and editing in Adobe InDesign• Map creation or analysis with ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Online• Assist in the development of transportation planning projects, studies, report.• Assist with facilitation of public workshop events.• Assist with planning &/or design duties, as needed.• Plan, schedule, coordinate, and conduct transportation engineering planning assignments, and document and convey the findings in both oral and technical report form• Establish and maintain effective working relationships private and public officials, and other employees – good communication skills a must• Assist in the preparation of NEPA documentation including environmental impact statements (EISs), Environmental Assessments (EAs), Categorical Exclusions (CEs), plans and technical studies primarily for transportation projects, but may also include preparation of documentation for other governmental entities.• Coordinate with clients, regulatory/resource agencies, local governments as part of the NEPA process and environmental document preparation.• Assist with incorporating technical studies and ecological resource assessments such as traffic analyses, air & noise analyses, socio-economic analyses, wetland delineations, habitat assessments, and other natural resource surveys in to the NEPA environmental document.• Perform research, conduct environmental analyses (field and desktop), develop recommendations, and assist in the preparation of technical reports.• Participate in public workshops and other project meetings with regulatory/resource agencies.QualificationsYour Capabilities and Credentials• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.• Knowledge of GIS a plus.• Must be able to travel as needed for project assignments.• Must have a good driving record and valid driver’s license.• Team oriented and ability to collaborate with stakeholders, clients, and teammates.• Strong research skills and open to feedback• Self-motivated and highly organized• Proficient with Microsoft Office365 Suite (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, Word, Excel)• Experience with AutoCAD, SketchUp &/or ArcGIS Desktop software preferred• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite software such as Photoshop, InDesign, and/or Illustrator• Comprehensive approach to challenges and problem-solvingEducation and Experience• B.S. in planning, engineering or environmental discipline; Transportation concentration or strong interest in transportation planning is preferred.• Minimum 5 years of experience, internship included.Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Flexibility to work from the office or from home.
