Department Information This internship is a remote position. Applicants must be local to Colorado. This is a non-employee intern position. No benefits are available. This is a temporary part-time position (20 hours/week) and will exist for 2 months or less. This position is not covered by the Partnership Agreement between the State of Colorado and Colorado Workers for Innovative and New Solutions (COWins) (This posting may be used to fill multiple vacancies and may be extended.) Description of Job Tentative Start Date: July 8th, 2024 About the Work Unit: The Education and Community Opportunities (ECO) unit within the Air Pollution Control Division (APCD) seeks to support the design and implementation of community-led air quality monitoring programs by developing a replicable model for existing and new programs, serving as a liaison between Colorado communities and the Air Pollution Control Division's subject matter experts, and providing high-quality, accurate educational and outreach resources for communities. Internship Description: Project Title: Graphic Design Specialist Project Description: As a Graphic Design Intern, this role will be responsible for providing support to the Education and Community Opportunities (ECO) unit through a variety of projects, including digital, web, and others as assigned. The Graphic Design Intern will assist with the design and development of a core website, internal and public facing presentations, collateral outreach and event materials, and a variety of other creative tasks as assigned. Smart Objectives: Assist the Education and Community Opportunities Unit with 10 small graphic design projects based on air quality and air toxics over a two-month period to establish promotional and educational materials for community engagement efforts. The candidate will be utilizing Adobe Creative Suite to complete projects and work closely with the Air Pollution Control Division's Communications team to learn about and meet state agency standards for graphics, design, and marketing. Deliverables or outcomes: Collaborate, brainstorm, and strategize with the Community Partnerships and Policy team on a wide range of materials that may include public web pages, presentations, collateral materials, signage, internal and external communications, newsletters, and marketing materials. Translate strategic direction into high-quality design within an established department brand identity and following Colorado digital accessibility standards-Assist with website updates using drupal content management system Creation of logos for various products such as banners, fact sheet templates, outreach marketing materials, and K-12 educational materials Interaction with team members via email and Google Meet to share revisions and finished designs Meeting coordination and communications support with internal and external partners Other projects and duties as assigned Essential Skills: Three or more years of experience in graphic design Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks within identified timeframe Additional Beneficial Skills: Interest in or knowledge about environmental science. Communication Interprofessional Practice Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights Minimum Qualifications: Qualified candidates must be either: Any college student enrolled in an accredited community college, college or university seeking an Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. degree program in the Business Management, Communications, Media & Marketing, or closely related fields. OR A recent college graduate. Recently graduated means the individual should have attended an accredited college or university and have graduated with an Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. degree in Business Management, Communications, Media & Marketing within three calendar years (include transcripts). College Transcripts: If you are using education to qualify, a legible copy of your official or unofficial college transcript(s) or a foreign credential evaluation report must be submitted with your application. Transcripts must show the name of the school and that a degree was conferred. Transcripts from colleges or universities outside of the United States must be assessed for U.S. equivalency by a NACES educational credential evaluation service. Failure to provide a transcript or foreign credential evaluation report may result in your application being rejected and you will not be able to continue in the selection process for this position. Preferred Qualifications: Interest in or knowledge about environment science. Interest or knowledge in K-12 education and educational materials. Conditions of employment: Pursuant to CDPHE policy, a background check is required for all positions at CDPHE. Signed Non-Employee Confidentiality Agreement is required If you will be using this internship for academic credit, a Signed Affiliation Agreement is required between CDPHE and your University.
