IOT will also act as the technology and solution enabler for the State, helping its partner agencies achieve business objectives and innovation.Role Overview:The Indiana Geographic Information Office (IGIO) is seeking a dynamic and creative Communications Intern to join our team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) while contributing to the development of communication materials and strategies that support the IGIO's mission. The Communications Intern will work closely with the Communications Coordinator to assist in developing templates, organizing events, enhancing our digital presence, and engaging with various stakeholders.Salary Statement:The salary for this position traditionally starts at $16.24\hr but may be commensurate with education or work experience.A Day in the Life:The essential functions of this role are as follows:• Participate in daily stand-up meetings with the Communications Coordinator to plan and prioritize tasks.• Develop templates for slide decks, Word documents, and other materials to streamline workflows for the IGIO.• Assist in the planning and execution of the annual GIS Day event., including coordinating with multiple state agencies and helping to manage logistics for presentations and attendees.• Create content for the IGIO’s social media platforms, blog, and website to improve our online presence and engagement.• Collaborate with team members to develop and refine branding and communication strategies.• Support video, photography, and sound editing projects to enhance the IGIO’s communication materials.• Conduct hard drive and data cleanup as needed, ensuring organized and accessible information.• Work on a professional project aligned with your interests, culminating in a final product to showcase your impact on the IGIO team.• Write and edit articles, press releases, newsletters, and other written content.• Assist with email marketing efforts, including the creation and distribution of newsletters.• Help manage contact lists and databases.What You'll Need for Success:The ideal candidate for this role should have the following qualifications and skills:• Currently enrolled in a degree program related to communications, graphic design, media studies, or a related field.• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling content.• Experience with graphic design software and Microsoft Office Suite.• Familiarity with social media platforms such as LinkedIn and YouTube.• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.• A passion for learning and applying new skills in a professional setting.• Enthusiasm for contributing to projects that have a real-world impact.What Will Set You Apart:• Proficiency in photography, video editing, and sound editing.Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous periodEqual Employment Opportunity:The State of Indiana is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to recruiting, selecting, developing, and promoting employees based on individual ability and job performance.
