POSITION TYPE: 11-month, Exempt Professional Staff (EPS), FLSA Exempt, 1.0 FTE HIRING RANGE: $42,740 - $48,315... Description of Duties: This position provides management, supervision and administrative support to the Athletic Director for NCSSM’s Durham campus. This position will manage and support a portion of the Interscholastic Varsity Sports teams. It will be responsible for processing all temporary hires, biweekly time sheets, procurement and scheduling. Areas of emphasis will include: • Facilities Operations and Management: Responsible for coordinating the setup of varsity sports events. Manage all PAW facilities’ reservations and schedules. Recruit, train, schedule and supervise PAW evening and weekend supervisors. Regularly monitor facilities for safety, maintenance and utilization needs. Liaison with Plant Facilities for immediate repairs/set-ups as well as the annual needs for upkeep. Manage the scheduling, supervision and evaluation of all campus service students assigned to PAW. • Administration and Compliance: Process, complete and submit all Personal Service Contracts for Temporary Employees to include coaches and PEC Supervisors. Work with the Athletic Director to ensure eligibility, complete and maintain NCHSAA rosters for all student athletes. • Leadership and Interscholastic Varsity Sports Support: Provide leadership and support to PAW staff, coaches, Serve as Administrative Representation for Interscholastic Varsity Sports events. Assist the Athletic Director in the planning and facilitation of Varsity coaches and team meetings. Provide oversight and support for home varsity sports events hosted off-campus. Coordinate uniform distribution and collection for all varsity teams. • Recreational and Community Engagement: Collaborate with student and staff community members to plan and implement monthly recreational and wellness activities. Develop and communicate a monthly calendar of offerings. Evaluate programs for effectiveness and engagement. Serve as department liaison for club sports and their sponsors. • Budget and Purchasing: Utilize state, foundation and SCSSI procedures to procure PAW supplies, equipment and uniforms. Maintain and reconcile monthly budgets. Train employees and manage the collection, reconciliation and reporting of all gate receipts and concession transactions via SCSSI. Initiate and process all travel for varsity sports teams. • Student Support: Work with Counseling Services, Academic Programs and Student Services to support student athletes’ emotional well being. Develop and facilitate student-athlete focus groups to evaluate program effectiveness and opportunities for growth/improvement. This is a 11 month position that requires flexible hours to work athletic and school events. This position requires the employee to work in person. It has the potential to be responsible for driving for school related business/transporting students and requires a valid driver’s license with no serious driving-related convictions. Must be insurable. • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills • Work collaboratively and effectively within a team • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, coaches and families • Planning, implementation and evaluation for events and programs • Provide personal support to student athletes utilizing a variety of best-practice, evidence-based theories, techniques, skills, and strategies while making appropriate referrals • Prioritize options and balance a multitude of details and commitments • Exhibit strong conflict management skills • Be compassionate and caring • Engage in creative problem-solving • Take initiative in the workplace and work as an integral member of a supportive team • Pay close attention to detail and be able to make difficult and timely decisions without the need for close supervision • Demonstrated ability to work with technology and other resources to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of practices, policies, and procedures • Demonstrated understanding of the roles that Student Life and Physical Activity and Wellness maintain in supporting the academic and student life functions of a residential high school • Experience working with the management of major processes • Provide professional development opportunities for staff and temporary employees in support of student wellness, development and safety Bachelor’s degree required with preferences for degree in Recreation, Sports Management, College Student Personnel or Education. Minimum of two years experience working in a recreation, athletics, sports management, or education setting. Experience training and supervising individuals. Knowledge and experience with interscholastic varsity sports, intramural sports and recreational programming. Demonstrated expertise with technology as it relates to daily processing, budget and statistical tracking, and communication. Possess First Aid and CPR certification (must be obtained within the first 6 months of employment). Team NCSSM Benefits Free On-campus Parking Vacation: EHRA EPS (Exempt Professional Staff) earn 24 days per year. Leave is earned monthly. Sick Leave: 12 days per year (part-time employees pro-rated). Additional Leave: Family Medical Leave (FMLA), Paid Parental Leave (PPL), Civil Leave, Personal Observance Day, Extended Illness, Short/Long Term Disability, Family Illness Leave, Military Leave, Community Service Leave, Voluntary Shared Leave and Leave Without Pay. Health Insurance: Employee only coverage under the State Health Plan (PPO) is provided to employees that work 30 or more hours a week. Retirement: Required participation for all employees working 3/4 time or more. Option (1) Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS) requires 6% of gross salary. Employees are vested for retirement after 5 years. Option (2) The Optional Retirement Program (ORP) requires 6% of gross salary. Employees in ORP are vested after 5 years of participating in ORP. As a participant in either retirement program, you are automatically covered for short-term disability (eligible after 1 year of service/no cost), long term disability (eligible after 5 year of service/no cost). Death benefit of minimum $25,000/maximum $50,000 based on previous 12 month salary (eligible after 1 year of service/no cost). Supplemental Retirement Plans: Supplemental retirement plans provide an additional opportunity to help you reach your retirement goals. Supplemental Plan offerings such as a 401(k), 403(b), or 457(b) on a Roth (after-tax) or pre-tax contributions. Tuition Waiver: Three courses per academic year tuition free (at any of UNC 17 campuses that offer courses) for permanent full-time employees. State Employees Credit Union: Membership welcomed. Community Service: 24 hours leave credited each calendar year (prorated for part-time) unless you choose the Mentoring/ tutoring option – 1 hour each week up to a max of 36 hours that schools are in session as documented by the elected board of the local education agency or the governing authority of any non-public school.
