Description of WorkThe Investment Management Division is hiring an Investment Analyst. Analysts with experience working with a Pension, Family Office, Endowment, Investment Consultant, Management Consulting are encouraged to apply. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits, including health insurance, paid vacation, paid sick time, paid holidays, as well as retirement. Recruitment Range: $75,000 - $110,000This position has been designated as Exempt in accordance with North Carolina General Statute § 126-5 (c12)The Investment Analyst assists the Investment Director and Portfolio Manager(s) in monitoring the existing portfolio and analyzing potential investments. The Analyst performs tasks that support the entire team including scheduling key activities, researching, analyzing, and preparing specialized reports for the asset class. Duties include, but not be limited to:• Analyze financial information, calculate performance, complete attribution analysis and other metrics to accurately gauge investment merits and considerations• Participate in existing and potential manager meetings, both internal and external, and document findings from those meetings• Assist in the creation of investment memos, including the creation of charts and graphs to illustrate the analysis• Assist in maintaining a cash flow allocation forecast model• Generate recurring and ad hoc reports as necessary for presentations to internal and external stakeholders such as the Chief Investment Officer, Treasurer, Investment Advisory Committee, and Plan Participants• Travel: 10%About us:The Investment Management Division is the investment arm of the Department of State Treasurer, and actively invests and manages the State’s pension funds and other assets entrusted to the Department. Standing teams are Investment Grade Fixed Income, Public Equity, Private Equity, Opportunistic Fixed Income and Inflation Sensitive, Real Estate, Multi-Strategy, Risk and Asset Allocation, and Investment Operations.Our campus is located on Atlantic Avenue, is surrounded by many shopping centers and restaurants, has access to a 24-hour 7-day-a-week free gym on the campus, and has free employee parking.In furtherance of the Department of State Treasurer’s existing ethics and transparency programs, this position is subject to the ethics and conflict of interest requirements of the Department of State Treasurer Supplemental Ethics Policy (Tier 2 Policy) https://www.nctreasurer.com/media/3288/download?attachment.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / CompetenciesQualified applicants must possess, and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:• Professional understanding of the principles and practices of institutional investment management, capital markets, and portfolio analysis as it relates to Fixed Income, Equities, or Alternative investments investment strategies.• Knowledge of statistical methods and ability to independently interpret and apply them in a dynamic investment environment.• Experience applying statistical frameworks to financial modeling and practical investment considerations.• Advanced experience with Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Statistical Analysis.• Proven ability to compile, monitor, and examine various financial, performance, and/or data reports for accuracy, integrity, and conformance to performance benchmarks; to draw conclusions and prepare written findings and presentations; make recommendations as supported by facts; create charts and graphs to illustrate analysis of investment memos, and recognize and research unusual activity for further investigation.• Demonstrated ability to prepare written and/or technical products that convey concise, comprehensive, and accurate findings and conform to guidelines; to provide appropriate documentation to support conclusions; and consult on issues of moderate complexity.Management Preferences• Industry certifications (i.e, CFA, CAIA) or advanced degrees in related fields• 2+ years of experience working with a Pension, Family Office, Endowment, Investment Consultant, Management Consulting, or similar roleMinimum Education and Experience RequirementsSome state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both.
