The Washington State Attorney General's Office is recruiting for a full-time, permanent Legal Assistant 2 in the Antitrust Division. The position is located in downtown Seattle, WA. The Antitrust Division investigates violations of state and federal antitrust laws, and brings enforcement actions for injunctive and monetary relief on behalf of consumers and the State of Washington in federal and state court. The Antitrust Division conducts investigations and litigates cases alone and in conjunction with other state and federal antitrust enforcers. The Division also engages in competition advocacy and provides advice and training to state agencies and external stakeholders on competition-related matters. Representative cases handled by the Division include a $39 million price-fixing lawsuit against CRT manufacturers, a lawsuit against CHI-Franciscan regarding anticompetitive healthcare transactions, and a lawsuit against the sandwich chain Jersey Mike's for prohibiting competition for employees among its franchisees. Salary • Legal Assistants based in our Seattle Office receive 15% assignment pay in addition to the salary listed above.At the journey-level, this position supports the Antitrust staff by providing technical legal assistant support of cases. Duties include, but are not limited to: • Provide technical legal clerical support of cases, including proofreading and editing of legal documents for content and grammar, composing correspondence for signature, and verifying legal citations and references for accuracy and consistency; • Prepare, assemble, organize, and maintain pleadings, correspondence, research and investigation files; • Monitor, track, and update status of cases by entering legal documents and case specific correspondence into CMS document and calendar tables; • Independently track and update status of cases by obtaining due dates from court documents, court rules, or critical dates and deadlines; • Advise attorney of upcoming commitments, deadlines and special items needing attention; • Make and confirm travel and lodging arrangements necessary to support litigation unit; • Process incoming electronic and paper mail to identify critical events; • Perform entry-level paralegal duties; and • Scheduling depositions of parties, attorneys, and court reporters. Option 1: High School diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in a legal environment in support of an attorney, administrative law judge(s), industrial insurance appeals judge(s), review judge(s) or equivalent; Option 2: One year as a Legal Assistant 1; Option 3: A two-year degree in Legal Secretary Studies, Paralegal Studies or related field of study plus 1 years of legal office experience. A Bachelor's degree may substitute for the Legal Secretary or Paralegal degree, but not for the experience.This recruitment is open until filled however, candidates are encouraged to apply early as the review process will be on-going.
