Underwriter

Steadily is an insurance technology company that specializes in rental property insurance for landlords. We’re four years old, just over 150 people, manage $20B in risk, and are intent on becoming the world’s best and largest insurer of rental properties.

We exist to deliver fast, affordable insurance and to pay claims quickly and fairly. To do that, we hire the best engineers, actuaries, sales, and service people in the country to build the experience that we’d want if we were the client.

Steadily is hiring an Underwriter that will be responsible for ensuring we are growing, writing profitable business, and making sure client requests are addressed quickly and effectively. You'll be surrounded by team members who are also the very best at what they do which will just make you even better.

What you'll do

  • You will know the underwriting appetite and guidelines of our various programs intimately. We are not a “Dr. No” underwriting shop. We try to say yes as often as we can while mitigating risk. You will be responsible for growing our books of business profitably.

  • Provide impeccable support to internal and external agents which often includes addressing time-sensitive requests outside of normal business hours (e.g. evenings and weekends).  We are reimagining what a modern underwriting department looks like and building a brand. You will be one of the faces of that brand.

  • Process work in various internal systems including Salesforce. You will quickly become an SME on our internal platforms.

  • You will work closely with the product team to help us build the best landlord insurance product in the world.

  • Assist with ongoing QC efforts to ensure a high quality underwriting product. As a high growth company, rigorous QC processes are essential.

  • Problem solve complex customer service and underwriting issues such as billing support, incomplete or delayed inspections, nuanced customer situations and risk profiles, etc.

  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy in documenting underwriting files in our policy administration system.

Your Background

  • Experienced: You have at least 5 years of experience in a P&C insurance environment and/or 2 years of property underwriting experience. You’re a property underwriting savant. Prior sales and/or midwest underwriting experience are a big plus.

  • Insurance: Knowledge of insurance coverage, products, and navigating carrier rating engines. Bonus if you have experience underwriting dwelling fire and homeowners products.

  • Communication: You possess superior verbal and written communication skills. You can communicate concisely and diplomatically, maintaining a calm demeanor and professional communication.

  • Digital: You have above average computer skills. You’re great at independently learning new software quickly and are savvy using online resources.

  • Self-Driven: You thrive under intense pressure and can manage a large workload with minimal oversight. There is no task too small or beneath you; “that’s not my job” is not in your mantra.

  • Hungry: You want to make the leap into an earlier-stage tech company to rapidly accelerate your growth. You want to roll up your sleeves and hustle – you are not looking for a traditional 9-5 job.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary between $100,000 - $130,000

  • Equity in the company

  • 3 weeks PTO plus six federal holidays

  • Health insurance including Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability, HSA, FSA
