What You'll Do Here:
Content Developers at National Geographic Learning function as, and partner with, subject matter experts to develop engaging content for Grades 6-12. As part of a high-performance team, the Content Developer is responsible for in-house and out-of-house development of both print and digital products to clarify, strengthen, and enhance their quality.

  • In conjunction with the product development team, participates, and upon request, leads in refining the product premise and determining the scope and nature of development work.
  • Through detailed evaluation of media content (i.e., text, video, and interactive), and in close partnership with program consultants/authors and other content developers, strives to achieve content that is accurate, factual, clear, complete, current, diverse, legal, consistent, and standards-based.
  • Researches, writes, edits, and reviews content per program guidelines.
  • Proofreads and copyedits materials for style, grammar, spelling, clarity, and age appropriateness.
  • Reviews and comments on the work to ensure that the quality of work, schedules, and budgets are appropriately maintained.
  • Assists in training others to accomplish content goals.
  • Recommends innovative and effective pedagogical features and content based on market research and feedback.
  • Manages freelance content writers and other professionals as determined by project needs.
  • Helps to build prototypes and style guides to assist in the creation of quality products and programs.
  • Communicates the requirements of each project. Troubleshoots. Devises strategies to maintain schedules.
  • Assists team members with learning design and development to align with industry standards and market needs. Also recommends changes in organization and presentation of new or existing material to improve quality and focus.
  • Consults with team members and shared services/vendors on market research.
  • Analyzes competing products. Interprets and shares the market information with internal business partners.
  • Assists developers in designing user interface and logical program flow, and works to improve digital skills.
  • As requested, stays ahead of market changes by attending professional meetings and seminars, reading professional journals, and participating in professional development opportunities.

Skills You Will Need Here:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience developing print and digital educational products such as textbooks.
  • Thorough knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and science pedagogy.
  • Educational Publishing experience is a MUST.
  • Must be an exceptional writer and editor of educational content.
  • Must be an excellent communicator and a great teammate, and must have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must have the ability to work within budgets and schedules. Outstanding organizational and time-management skills are critical.
  • Knowledge of basic computer applications (word processing and spreadsheets).

Preferred
  • Knowledge of publishing technology, including Adobe InCopy or InDesign and Acrobat Pro.
  • Master’s degree.
  • Understanding of K12 market dynamics.
  • Professional experience as a secondary classroom teacher of a STEM subject.
  • Experience with instructional design, learning design, or curriculum design.

Base Pay Range
The full base pay range has been provided for this position. Individual base pay will vary based on qualifications, experience, internal equity, and geographic location. Sales roles often incorporate a significant incentive compensation program beyond this base pay range.
$44,200.00 - $70,700.00 USD
