This position serves as a Storekeeper for the Property Control/Asset Management Unit. The Storekeeper assists the Property Control Officer with managing warehouse inventory and assists with deploying inventory orders from the DoIT warehouse. Job Responsibilities

35% Under general supervision, serves as a Storekeeper for the Property Control/Asset Management Unit for the Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT):

  • Coordinates physical inventory program.
  • Conducts and performs yearly physical inventories and reconciliation throughout the state of the Agency’s Electronic Data Processing (EDP), network and voice communications equipment.
  • Enters, tracks, monitors, maintains, and updates documentation of movement and locations, including various technical reports, records, and automated asset/inventory management systems and spreadsheets.
  • Prepares or assists in preparation of necessary requisitions for stock replacement.
  • Initiates emergency purchases of minor items as authorized.
  • Produces reports describing inventory status and location.


30% Enters asset information into inventory management system:

  • Determines quality of goods against prescribed specifications by observing merchandise and supplies for damages or spoilage when received and contacts vendors as required.
  • Applies DoIT property tags to incoming equipment following property control guidelines.
  • Maintains complex database records for incoming equipment and reviews data entry methods to ensure accurate capital assets for all DoIT/Illinois Century Network (ICN) locations.
  • Develops and coordinates inventory orders and approvals for installation and movement of DoIT managed equipment throughout DoIT/ICN user sites, using the Agency’s asset/inventory management systems.
  • Prepares and processes equipment for release to installation teams.
  • Prepares obsolete and/or end-of-life equipment for either delivery to the Agency’s recycling agent or vendor trade-in.
  • Works with vendor regarding merchandise return.
  • Operates equipment including forklift, pallet jack, dollies, flat bed cart to load and unload equipment.
  • Transports equipment to designated warehousing and/or customer business sites.
  • Removes scheduled surplus assets from DoIT facilities and off-site locations.

20% Coordinates and transports DoIT inventoried IT assets for DoIT office relocations:

  • Reconciles asset/inventory system discrepancies against on-site physical inventories.
  • Updates asset management / inventory systems and spreadsheets to reflect office relocations.
  • Enforces compliance with the State Property Control Act and Agency operations requirements.


10% Performs investigational studies and detailed asset/inventory analyses, as required by operational needs and administration of the Inventory Control Program coordinates.


5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.
  • Requires one (1) year of experience in the keeping of stores and stores records.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  • One (1) year of experience working in a storeroom, warehouse, or similar environment.
  • Working knowledge of storeroom and warehouse methods, procedures, inventory record keeping and controls.
  • One (1) year of experience working with asset/inventory management systems.
  • Working knowledge of transportation agencies, shipment methods, and purchase and requisition procedures.
  • Ability to utilize various spreadsheet applications to update and maintain inventory records and status reports.
  • Ability to determine quality of goods against prescribed specifications.
  • Ability to gain and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with management, co-workers, vendors, and other agency staff.

  • This position is considered very heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(e)). Very Heavy work involves lifting objects weighing more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
