About The Team The Messaging team builds the platform that powers communications from Stripe to the millions of businesses and customers using Stripe. These communications span multiple channels like emails, SMS, push notifications, Dashboard messages, etc across all product surfaces at Stripe. In addition to the platform that is used to create and send messages we also build systems that give Stripe users the ability to be in control of what messages they receive and how they want to receive them. We value the reliability of mission critical and high volume APIs as well as craft and beauty of the outgoing communications. We’re looking for a full-stack engineer who is passionate about building an internal platform powering reliable message delivery, thinking deeply about API ergonomics and tooling as well as building external user facing experiences that delight our users. What you’ll do As a full-stack engineer on the Messaging team, you’ll build platform-level capabilities for Stripe communications across multiple channels, elevating the experience for every merchant. By creating and expanding these platform capabilities, you’ll enable message delivery at scale while providing Stripe users with a seamless experience to view, manage and communicate important information. And on top of that, you’ll accelerate other teams at Stripe by enabling them to focus on their unique goals without needing to think about platform-level concerns. Responsibilities • Build software services and platforms that impact millions of Stripe users, whether they’re an end user, developer, or partner • Ensure our platforms are reliable, scalable, secure, and extensible • Shape future-proof interfaces that are easy to build against • Make effective tradeoffs that consider business priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation • Help drive sound technical decision making and lead technical conversations with other teams across Stripe • Debug production issues across services and levels of the stack Who you are We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement. Minimum Requirements • 3+ years of fullstack engineering experience building end-to-end user solutions • Mastery of one or more programming languages such as Ruby, Python, or Go, and frontend experience with React and either Typescript or Javascript • Experience debugging complex problems across the whole stack • Thrive in a collaborative environment involving engineers, designers, and others to identify high-impact ways of solving problems quickly • Excellent oral and written communication Preferred Qualifications • You strive for simple solutions and designs over complex ones, and have a good intuition for what will last and scale well • Experience building scalable, resilient, and observable systems while understanding UX best practices for the frontend • You can put yourself in the shoes of your users to understand their needs and fit that into the bigger picture • Experience with building software for fellow developers • You stitch together many different services and processes, even if you have not worked with them before Hybrid work at Stripe This role is available either in an office or a remote location (typically, 35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office). Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams. A remote location, in most cases, is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently or plan to live. Pay and benefits The annual US base salary range for this role is $136,800 - $205,200. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process. Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends
