Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Student Assistant in the Office of Education within Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The Student Assistant works to support our clinical skills center by assisting with video uploads and captures, room set-up, and working as a standardized patient. Standardized patients (SPs) are individuals trained to portray patient scenarios for the instruction and assessment of clinical skills of medical students, residents, fellows, and other diverse professionals. As the name implies, SPs offer a standardized, controlled experience for learners. Sessions are measurable and reproducible. SPs receive rigorous training to maintain a consistent, highly realistic portrayal. They’re also prepared extensively to give feedback to trainees on communication and interpersonal skills, and in many cases, to complete scoring checklists. This is a part-time temporary hourly position with flexible hours that usually occur during the school day.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Provides administrative support to the coordinators in the clinical skills center and office of education.
- Participate in training sessions and set-up for OSCEs (objective structured clinical exams) or other educational events utilizing standardized patients.
- Role-play being a patient utilizing a standardized script and the training provided. Repeat the performance for all students assigned.
- Take notes and rate the students’ performances utilizing RWJMS systems.
- Provide educationally constructive verbal feedback within a structured format, as appropriate to the position.
- Assist with video recordings and uploading of videos.
- Maintain confidentiality of information related to cases, student behaviors and feedback evaluations.
- Assist with support for running OSCEs including opening walls, setting up computers, timing halls, etc.
