Major/Essential Functions
Testing the central hypothesis is that ATRA depletion
induces oxidative stress and loss of transcriptional
control of RAR-sensitive genes in DG cell types,
which can be accelerated or delayed by bidirectionally
manipulating DG ATRA levels through 3 specific
aims.
Assistance with maintaining the mouse colony; genotyping; keeping
other lab members abreast of mouse and tissue availability.
Presentations and at laboratory meetings, local group
research meetings, and off-campus professional
meetings.
Occasional Duties
Student research assistant will assist in mouse dissections, tissue embedding, sample labeling, cryostat sectioning of frozen and fixed tissue, mouse colony maintenance, and genotyping.
Attendance and presentations at laboratory meetings.
Meeting deadlines for local scientific/professional meetings; solicit and concisely report progress of laboratory activities.
Required Qualifications
A Texas Tech University undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in at least 6 hours employed to perform work which does not require academic training at the graduate level.
Preferred Qualifications
Background in basic principles in biology and neuroscience attained through undergraduate research and/or coursework.
Experience in the planning, coordination, and execution of NIH-funded research aims and experiments.
Familiarity with molecular biological, microscopic and/or immunocytochemical techniques and a genuine interest in learning new techniques.
Student enrolled in TTU Undergraduate Research Programs.
Experience in publishing research findings.
Experience in making substantial contributions to funded and future grants at both the level of concept and content review.
Familiarity with presentation and poster-making software.
Pay Statement
