Studies Design Engineer

The Opportunity

Ulteig is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Studies Design Engineer position to support its design studies on projects within the renewable energy market. This role will focus on developing internal processes and best practices, supporting projects as mentor or review resource for other team members, and completing design studies, including but not limited to, arc flash, load flow, transients, and harmonics. This individual will report directly to the team manager, interacting closely with other team members, individuals on other teams, project managers, and external clients. The Studies Design Engineer is a self-starting individual with technical expertise and excelling in internal and external communication, collaboration, and workload management. The Studies Design Engineer will champion a culture of collaboration, positivity, growth, and innovation within the team.

What You’ll Do

The Studies Design Engineer is expected to perform studies utilizing PSCAD, EMTP, PSSE, ETAP, EasyPower, SKM Power*Tools and/or other software packages to support design studies such as short circuit, arc flash, load flow, transients, and harmonics for renewable project clients; to train, coach and mentor other engineers within the company; to identify and support internal process improvement; to work with the project management team to manage projects; and to identify and support business development. While the primary workload for this individual will be renewable design studies, there will be many additional opportunities available to expand the individual’s study skillset, if desired. You would be working with a team that performs a wide array of studies, including renewable project interconnection studies, transmission planning for utilities, NERC compliance, and more.

What We Expect from You

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required, ABET accredited program, or equivalent required
• A minimum of 3 years of engineering experience, with at least 2 years of experience directly related to power system studies
• Experience with PSCAD, PSSE, ETAP, EasyPower, and/or SKM Power*Tools steady-state required
• Experience working with renewable projects preferred
• Independently completes assigned tasks required
• Actively manages individual workload
• Must be able to provide training and support to other engineers
• Must be analytical, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in high-pressure situations while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic attitude
• Excellent presentation and verbal/written communications skills
• Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, clients and external agencies
• Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S
