ABOUT THE JOB
Counselor in Training Instructors will have the unique opportunity to participate in our exciting new Counselor in Training (CIT) program. In this role, you will support our CIT program to provide widely applicable leadership skills and camp-specific job training to our oldest campers, rising 8th -10th graders. Instructors will interact deeply with Galileo’s newly designed CIT curriculum - planning ahead, reflecting daily, and providing feedback for the further development of the CIT program. This role is seasonal Full Time, working Monday - Friday.

YOU WILL
  • Prepare for and deliver Galileo curriculum daily to groups of up to 15 Counselors in Training
  • Implement the curriculum as written, adapting it as needed to improve the camper experience or accommodate individual campers, and capturing feedback to share with curriculum developers
  • Provide leadership, energy and camp spirit, constantly assessing group dynamics and the needs of individual CITs
  • Work closely with the staff team to ensure that CIT participation and service to camp is supportive of their daily responsibilities
  • Provide excellent customer service to families by communicating with them on a daily basis about their camper’s experience
  • Contribute to and participate in check-in and check-out, daily opening and closing ceremonies, all-camp activities, and snack & lunch supervision and programming
  • Assist with daily setup and cleanup of camp
  • Maintain safe environments for all campers
  • CIT Instructors will report to the Camp Director and receive professional development and ongoing coaching

YOU HAVE
  • College degree preferred but not required
  • Experience working with kids or in a camp setting a plus
  • Genuine love for and interest in working with children and/or education
  • Ability to maintain an excellent work ethic, a high level of energy, and exceptional enthusiasm each day
  • Flexibility to meet changing needs and demands while balancing multiple tasks efficiently
  • Desire to work collaboratively on a team, with an openness to feedback and a desire to grow professionally
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Great communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must be at least 18 years of age by May 26, 2023
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certification OR ability to become certified prior to the start of camp
  • Valid Mandatory Report Certrification OR ability to complete certification prior to the start of camp

Compensation / Benefits:
COMPENSATION AND PERKS
    • Compensation for this position varies by camp location and starts at $18.00 per hour and ranges up to $26.25 per hour for returning staff; your exact pay rate will be determined based on a variety of factors including work location and years of employment with Galileo Camps. Summer staff positions are hourly, non-exempt roles.

WORK HOURS
Our camps operate between 7:30am and 6:00pm, Monday through Friday. Camp set up is typically Friday - Sunday, and requires one weekend of availability. Number of hours and start/finish time of each shift will vary by site, position and day.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
During your onboarding process, you may need to complete a Tuberculosis (TB) screening, a background check, and mandated reporter training (California only). More details will be provided during your onboarding process.
