Supply Chain Director

OVERVIEW

Accountable for maintaining a robust supply chain for Teknova. This includes all raw materials and supplies to be used in production through effective planning and supplier management, finished good inventory management, and efficient shipping of products to customers. This position reports to the Head of Operations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead Teknova’s Supply Chain team, mentoring and developing the staff to continuously build the group’s capabilities and readiness for the growing complexity and scale of the business. Responsible for the following departments: Purchasing, Scheduling, Inventory Control, Shipping, and Receiving
• Accountable for the materials forecast, ensuring consistent materials availability for all laboratory functions, including adequate planning for long lead time items and short expiry items
• Responsible for manufacturing planning and scheduling, ensuring proper production planning to effectively and efficiently produce products to maintain appropriate safety stock for catalog items and industry-leading turnaround times for custom products
• Build and manage best-in-class vendor management process to ensure effective communication and collaboration, identification of win-win solutions and strategies, negotiation of purchasing terms, and addressing supplier issues with material quality or availability
• Ensure accurate inventory numbers and costing in our ERP system for all materials and supplies
• Drive continuous process improvement throughout the supply chain team, identifying and prioritizing proposed improvements, aligning senior management on the changes, and measuring and communicating their business impact and effectiveness
• Manage service agreements for all production-related equipment, including tracking of end dates to ensure timely renewal and ensuring consistency of terms and conditions
• Partner with senior leadership to manage the process for complex capital equipment purchases, applying best business practices for RFP and vendor selection processes.
• Identify, prioritize, and drive the development of additional suppliers to eliminate sole sourcing on critical materials
• Conduct regular vendor supply risk assessments, proposing and implementing appropriate risk mitigations
• Drive continuous improvement in material costs by identifying, prioritizing, and driving cost-saving opportunities
• Participate in supplier audits, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and utility of findings; follow up as appropriate to findings
• Ensure consistent compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and applicable regulations
• Ensure that supply chain SOPs are up to current practice and notify QA when new procedures are implemented

EDUCATION

• Minimum of bachelor's degree in business or related field
• MBA preferred

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

• 10+ years of related experience
• A track record of success in building an effective supply chain from the ground up for a diverse internal customer base and ensuring uninterrupted supply of materials to production
• Demonstrated leadership in driving change through inspiration and accountability
• Experience in developing capabilities, talent development, and performance management of teams
• Good human relations and excellent verbal/written communication skills are required along with a strong desire to work in a fast-paced highly interdisciplinary environment
• Effective problem-solving skills to successfully deal with problems varying in complexity
