Supply Chain Leader

Summary

Reporting to Head of Region Supply Chain, the Supply Chain Leader is responsible for being the purchasing material budget holder and single point of contact with project teams for purchased material status.

Duties and Responsibilities

(these are the positions essential duties and is not an all inclusive list)

Main areas of responsibilities are:

  • Perform thorough deep dives into as-sold purchased material budgets and content in order to develop project baseline budgets.
  • Perform monthly financial forecasting for purchasing material budgets.
  • Responsible for being the single point of contact with project teams for purchased material status.
  • Monitor and control purchased material financials to stay within budget for approved scope with loaded budget (BCU).
  • Confirms released purchased material content is within the approved purchased material scope and has budget (BCU) loaded into estimate at complete SAP transaction (EAC). This includes releases from engineering, manual purchase requisitions (PRs) and floor orders.
  • Create Non-Conformities (NCs) for all released purchased material content outside of budget (BCU). This includes releases from engineering, manual purchase requisitions (PRs) and floor orders.
  • Works collectively with project managers and change estimators to track customer changes and approval of new/modified scope.
  • Responsible for monthly review of Material Actuals, Work in Process (WIP), Stock, Commitments identifying and addressing any variances to scope/budget (BCU).
  • Responsible for financial spread of Stock, WIP, Commitments, Estimate to Complete (ETC) values predicting completion of tool level items for revenue recognition.
  • Identifies and drives revenue recognition opportunities.
  • Responsible for keeping the project team informed of purchasing material financial status.
  • Exposes actual and/or forecasted impacts due to material cost and scope and communicates with appropriate team members to prompt risk mitigation or opportunity realization strategies.
  • Identifies risk and opportunities and supports project management with this information.
  • Engage with follow-up/expediting coordinators to obtain material status by supplier and resolve any material related issues and/or expediting needs.
  • Support timeline development for purchasing related activities ensuring adequate lead time for purchased material.
  • Responsible for updating purchasing activities on timelines and reporting out purchasing material status for weekly project timing review meetings.
  • Frequently attend customer meetings and whiteboards on site (Metro Detroit) to provide purchased material status updates
  • Intimate involvement in high impact purchasing (recovery plans, cost recovery, large purchases, high risk purchases)
  • Work with site teams to develop material support plans
  • Lead any critical supplier material issues identified by site
  • Support and attend monthly project reviews to communicate material status and purchased material financial status along with any related issues to project teams and regional/global leadership.
Requirements:

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of local automotive supply base;
  • Fair working knowledge of global automotive supply base;
  • Extensive working knowledge on multiple commodities within the automotive industry (specifically Body in White (BIW) manufacturing);
  • Experience with adjacent disciplines i.e. engineering, planning, purchasing, logistics, project management, manufacturing;
  • Microsoft office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) - Advanced Excel skills required;
  • Familiar with ERP systems, specifically SAP;
  • Clear understanding of project timelines;
  • Working knowledge of project based organizations;
  • Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of both Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Project Management and Purchasing;
  • Financial management skills and knowledge of basic accrual based accounting system;
  • Understanding of cash flow inputs;
  • Budgeting and forecasting know-how;
  • Knowledge of Supply Chain/Purchasing and Project Management techniques and tools;
  • Analyzing and interpreting data;
  • Identifying measures or indicators for system performance monitoring;
  • Ability to plan and coordinate workflow and outputs efficiently across multiple functional groups;

Qualifications
  • Education:
    • BA in Supply Chain Management or relevant field preferred

  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of purchasing and/or material management experience at Non-Production Based Automotive Companies (preferably Body in White (BIW) Tier 1 Suppliers)
    • Strong working knowledge of both global and local automotive supply base
    • Previous project management experience preferred
