This position will receive, stage, evaluate and price recyclable materials according to function, usability, value and related criterion. Provides customer service by assisting with questions and concerns regarding surplus policies, procedures and operational activity. Supports unit by assisting customers, operating cash registers, tracking hazardous material removal, and assisting with special or large-scale activities. Collects paper and other recyclable materials from defined campus sites according to designated type, and removes or separates items that do not belong. Loads recyclable materials into designated vehicles or on-site repositories, and unloads materials at the primary surplus facility and places in designated areas. Moves surplus and recyclable materials using both motorized and non-motorized moving equipment. Operates, and trains and oversees lower level staff and students in the operation of, motor vehicles, recycling equipment, surplus equipment and other machinery used in department operations. Assists supervisor in maintaining records, shipping, receiving, customer interactions, and related functions necessary in the operation of surplus operations. Performs minor maintenance to surplus equipment and machinery and informs supervisor about problems or more extensive maintenance needs. Performs the duties of lower level surplus personnel as necessary. Perform related duties as assigned including, but not necessarily limited to the following: performs general cleaning and maintenance duties in surplus areas such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, etc.
The starting hourly rate for this position is $19.52, with an increase to $20.55 after successful completion of a six-month probationary period.
This position is not eligible for remote work.
