System Administrator

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a Systems Administrator who will support and manage all aspects of planning, configuring, deploying, supporting and decommissioning of systems hardware and software including related infrastructure. The position requires the person to participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. They will ensure that systems hardware, operating systems, network appliances configuration and management all adhere to organizational standards for compliance with security, regulatory and operational policies. They will also be responsible for implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including security, storage, data protection and disaster recovery plans.


This role will be based in our Marlborough, MA office reporting to the Manager, Information Technology.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Overall Scope:
    • Install and configure software and hardware
    • Manage network systems, appliances and technology tools spanning multiple physical sites
    • Monitor performance and maintain systems according to company requirements
    • Troubleshoot issues and outages
    • Ensure security through access controls, backups, firewalls, and cyber security applications working with the companies outsourced SOC
    • Upgrade systems with new releases, enhancements, patches and versions
    • Develop expertise to train staff on new technologies
    • Create technical documentation, manuals and IT policies
    • Research and implement new technologies including the deployment of new servers, software, hardware and tools
    • Provide hands-on system administration support, systems maintenance and operations support.
    • Diagnose and correct computer systems issues
  • Systems Administrator (50%)
    • Manage, build and maintain corporate servers
    • Set up user accounts, permissions and passwords
    • Manage and create system policies
    • Manage and maintain WSUS servers and patching systems
    • Manage and maintain antivirus updates across corporate WAN
    • Manage and maintain backup and restoration systems
    • Manage and maintain application servers
    • Manage and maintain web application servers
    • Manage and maintain Active Directory
    • Build and maintain end user workstations.
  • Virtualization Administrator (25%)
    • Create and manage redundant clusters in VMware.
    • Perform integration of VMWare with network hardware.
    • Conduct patch management using VMware update manager for ESX server.
    • oversee SAN/NAS space allocation for ESX servers host.
    • Perform Import/Export of virtual server using VMware converter.
    • Installation and configuration of multiple ESX server clusters.
    • Server migration physical to Virtual using hot and cold cloning technology in VMware.
    • Configuration of VMotion, Virtual switches, and VLANs in Virtualcenter.
    • Troubleshoot issues related to ESX host.
  • Administration (25%)
    • Ensure there is proper documentation of systems and processes
    • Document all support issues via the helpdesk system
    • Consolidate and virtualize physical servers to drive down cost
    • Deploy virtual servers using templates/clones and scripts
    • Create backup policies, alerts and archive systems
    • Design, implement and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans
    • Suggest and provide IT solutions to business and management problems
    • Ensure that all IT equipment complies with industry standards
    • Analyze and resolve faults, ranging from a major system crash to a forgotten password
    • Undertake routine preventative measures and implement permanent solutions to problem areas
    • Provide training and technical support for users with varying levels of IT knowledge and competence
    • Work closely with other departments/organizations and collaborating with other IT staff
    • Plan future IT developments and undertake complex project work
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Associate degree in Information Technology or Computer Science required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Microsoft, VMware or Cybersecurity certifications are a plus but not required
  • CompTIA Server+ or A+ certification is a plus

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 6+ years overall system administration experience
  • 4+ years of experience with VMware vSphere version up to ESXi 8
  • Extensive Knowledge of
    • Operating Systems including Windows Server up to version 2022
    • Networking software, hardware+ and networking protocols
    • Microsoft Active Directory
    • Management of backend servers: SQL, Email, application, web servers/services and collaboration systems
    • Cloud technologies including M365, Teams & Microsoft Azure
    • Enterprise backup and recovery procedures
    • DNS, DHCP, WINS, TCP/IP
    • PowerShell scripting
  • Familiarity with:
    • Security appliances and tools as well as working with a SOC
    • Linux (non-specific distro)
    • MS Office Suite
    • Scripting tools
    • SIEM concepts and configuration
    • Microsoft virtualization including Hyper-V on workstations

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE (Not Required):

Familiarity with:

  • Microsoft Business Central is a big plus
  • Familiarity with Nutanix a big plus
  • Kali Linux knowledge/experience is a plus
  • Scripting using Python a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is often required to stand, sit, use computers, read, write, type, use copy machines, file paperwork, use telephones and utilize written and oral communication to interact with clients, co-workers and customers. Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job related skills, as well as relevant education or training experience.

Salary Pay Range Minimum $80,975.42 - Midpoint $101,219.28
