What you will be doing (role duties and responsibilities)

You will work as part of the Defence and Space Systems Engineering team to design, develop and document the space and ground systems for a bold and exciting space systems project, initial activities will involve SatCom Ground and Space segments. You will work through the full systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements capture, design specification, integration and test, verification and validation and operation. Through life risk and opportunity management, safety analysis, failure / fault analysis, design for security, interface control, interoperability, change control management and configuration control are all important aspects of this role.

The Systems Engineering team will work across all engineering disciplines - including mechanical, electronics, radio, embedded systems, software, security - to ensure coherence and consistency in the system architecture, design and implementation and integration of the subsystems.


What we are looking for (skills and experience)

We are looking for ambitious, high-calibre people with the following characteristics:

Essential:

  • Highly motivated individual with a strong background in a relevant discipline, e.g. Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Electronic/Electrical Engineering
  • Experience of working in the Space sector
  • Knowledge and application of systems engineering processes and functions
  • Ability to both work in a fast-paced team environment and work productively on your own
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with all stakeholders

Desirable:

  • Experience with a range of systems engineering approaches, and ability to tailor approaches to the need
  • Broad interest and/or experience in radio communications technology, embedded systems and awareness of latest industry developments
  • A keen interest in the space sector and awareness of latest industry developments
  • Experience throughout engineering lifecycle (system definition, design, build, test and operational deployment)
  • System-of-systems definition, architecture and integration
