Job Description

Location: Sydney/ Melbourne/ Brisbane

The Senior Project Manager to work in the Individual Life Program Office is to drive large growth focused projects with multiple key streams and dependencies. You must have the ability to successfully manage projects, governance and risk, possessing a strong background in project management and a track record of delivering challenging projects on time and on budget. You will be tertiary qualified (a finance or business related discipline) with a proven ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders within Financial Services. The Program Office has a number of initiatives prioritised for the year which have a growth, operational improvement or regulatory focus. The projects can range from small, single business unit changes to large Enterprise wide initiatives with external business partners. 

Expectation is to guide team members activities and manage and influence all levels of stakeholders.

In this role you will: 

MAIN ACTIVITIES

  • Prepare and maintain all project documentation such as project approval papers and project management plans, schedules, risk and issues logs, budgets, status reports and post implementation reviews.
  • Create and maintain project stakeholder and governance structures.
  • Ensure deliverables meet stated requirements / standards.
  • Manage project resources and teams, including tasks assigned to members, and to internal teams such as the Risk Office, Operations, Finance and IT.
  • Efficiently monitor progress, prioritise, direct and ensure delivery at a task level.
  • Be accountable for a portfolio of projects aligned to the Individual Life strategy, and lead project management professionals and stakeholders across a complex portfolio of projects, with responsibility for overall design, project governance and delivery of project outcomes.

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

  • Determine business needs and drivers through stakeholder consultation and collaboration.
  • Build and manage excellent stakeholder (internal and external) relationships to ensure buy in and understanding of key outcomes. Relationships with stakeholders include: business partners, users, vendors, customers, project team members and management leaders.
  • Ability to constructively challenge stakeholders on their current ways of working and thinking to determine best target processes.
  • Expertly convene and run stakeholder meetings (steering committees, working groups, other workshops), manage stakeholder expectations, negotiate, forge consensus and agreement, facilitate stakeholder decision making to meet project deliverable requirements.
  • Lead business engagement workshops.

SUPPLEMENTARY

  • Comfortable working through ambiguity and ever-changing timelines and business assumptions.
  • Proactively foster an environment of growth and a strong team culture, by coaching others across the team.
  • Team leadership and mentoring / coaching of colleagues.
  • Key role in development and continuous improvement of the Project Office practice.
  • Ensure all projects are delivered in line with TAL project management processes, governance and frameworks.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Project Manager on complex programs of $5-$10M budget, preferably in the Insurance industry.
  • Excellent at conducting workshops with large stakeholder groups cross Enterprise, external stakeholders and Executive staff.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), presentation and collaboration skills.
  • Expert stakeholder management experience with focus on relationship development, management and negotiation skills. Highly capable at defusing situations and influencing stakeholders to a consensus. 
  • Strong understanding of all aspects of systems / software development lifecycle. 
  • Outstanding ability to work independently with excellent attention to detail and analytical skills to make informed decisions.
  • Lead, coach and inspire team members to complete deliverables within short deadlines.

DESIRED

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in an business management related field. 
  • Validated Project Management certification.
  • Experience in Life Insurance / Financial Services industry and background in call centre technology / telephony or as a Consultant.
  • Experience delivering Enterprise wide initiatives.
  • Experience at coaching or mentoring staff.
